New to me Ghibli

Hi I’m new to the forum :) Thinking of buying a second hand Ghibli - I’m conflicted re fuel. All the ones I’ve seen and liked are diesel and I’ve heard that petrol engines are better. And yet I was told by a dealer that you get more for your mileage by buying diesel. Any views? Thx in advance
I’ve been looking and researching for weeks until I bought mine yesterday. I ended up with going for a car a bit older to get the options that I wanted. Also I wanted a S model which narrows the search down even more. Be aware that some of the base models don’t even have heated seats so it’s important to ask questions re options. If you want to let me know which cars you are considering then I can tell you if I’ve spoken to the seller or not.

Thx - that’s good to know. I realise that servicing will be more expensive than I’m used to - could you give me a rough ball park on what to expect? Many thx

Sure no problem, the rough prices are basic service £650 and then they generally go up each year to the sixth year, which is due on my vehicle in July and that's around £1,500. These are main dealer prices and you can usually negotiate a discount, so it's not exactly cheap! The petrol engines I believe are cheaper to service but you pay considerably more for annual RFL.
In terms of reliability, in six years the engine has not given any issues at all.

Those figures were kind of what I guessed ...
But I suppose that as the car ages it’s less important to use a dealership? Perhaps a local garage with a good reputation would suffice? Thx again for replying to me :)

Said it before but what you will get from the Dealership and Good Indies is the latest software updates that the best local garages won't be able to do and that costs money hence higher servicing costs.
I have worked for both and trust me Dealerships don't pay us technician's higher wages.

So quick update - I’ve lost faith in the dealer selling the 2016 diesel Ghibli ... so the search continues ....

It’s on 20inch polished urano wheels the continental winter tyres. So if anybody wants a set let me know. I’ll measure the depth of tread when I get it. The ride seemed good although we have been using my wife’s SLK for the last 6 weeks since we sold my BMW 650.
I would think you are fine on 20”. They do offer 21&22 as well which might be where the problem is.

I don’t know what’s the matter with some of these dealers. I was trying to book a viewing with a dealer in Cambridge. Asked a few questions over the phone about service history and that I would like to view it on Saturday. They never phoned me back.

So guys I’ve found another ghibli - test drove it today. Loved it. It’s 2015 with 30k on clock. I’ve been offered an extended warranty for 3 years at £2400 and a service plan for 3 years at £1200. Also a ceramic coating for the exterior paint work for 995. Are these worth going for? Really grateful for any insights! Thx in advance :)

I know nothing about Ghiblis so can't comment on value of warranty.

If 3 years services cost more than £1200 and you plan to keep the car for 3 years it is probably worthwhile.

Ceramic coating can be had for a lot less than 995 but it also depends what is involved. If that is a simple coating, then it is expensive. If it is paint correction (and it needs it) it is good value.

Thx so much - servicing would be more than 1200 over three years - for sure. The coating also includes the interior - in particular the leather seats ....
I also think an extended warranty is a good idea on a car that age .... Any other views guys?

Servicing is very cheap. Who is doing that (is it a Maserati Main dealer?)
Just had service 2 done on mine and it was a few quid short of a grand (diesel).. includes oil and filters and not a lot else

It’s not a main dealer - it’s the dealership I’m hoping to buy from
