Thanks
If you see one of the other 41 for sale as race cars, I'll happily take you through the procedure of getting it registered. It's not quite as daunting as you might think!

Did you go SVA like a kit car or does it follow on from the production car approvals?

No need for the SVA or IVA test fortunately as Maserati issued a VIN attributable to a Granturismo so once I managed to get a build date letter from Maserati, it was 'just' down to getting an MOT. After that it was plain sailing, once I waited for the car to turn 10 years fols which it did in October 2019. Had I needed a full IVA test, I would have needed to replace the plexi with safety glass, cut out sections of the roll cage, change most of the protruding switch gear - the list goes on ..

@StuartW i have felt that on my early 4.2 he front end gets quite loose on high speed. So I was doing some research to see how i can add a bit more front end downforce. This lead me to a some aero stuff. Which made me wonder if your car has any significant underbody panels to help reduce drag and add downforce?

There's always one for sale in the USA.

As if by magic.

Yes, the front splitter (both the GT4 splitter which I don't currently have fitted, and the shorter custom one I have on now) continues as a flat floor section up to the end of the engine. There are then further flat floor sections extending the length of the car up to the rear diffuser which extends to the rear transaxle.
So yes, there is significant aero underneath and I guess combined with the rear wing, helps to produce the downforce they were looking for

Cool, thnx. Not planning to go anywhere close to that route. I'll probably just close up the 2 side vents on the bumper to reduce drag and frontend lift. Maybe add a splitter if im not happy with that result.

Have to keep busy in these covid times :p

What would you boys pay for one already in the UK, road legal and with a valid MOT I wonder - currently the only one in the world that can be legally driven on the road?!

Honestly, I wouldn't buy one. For me (and this is my personal opinion and not intended to detract from anything that you are seeking to achieve - quite the opposite in fact, I am in awe of what you have done) the attraction of the GT is that it is a 4 seater grand tourer and if I wanted a stripped down track day car then that's what I would buy.

For this reason, I don't get the 2 seater Strad either or any of the stripped down road cars offered by Porsche etc.

Whereas I am the complete opposite. I wouldn't bother looking at any 911 other than the 2 seaters, such as the GT3 or the T. The back seats are pointless, and I have proper sized 4 seat cars for when I have family/guests. So when it's just me (i.e. for most journeys) and my wife and I (for most other journeys), I don't want to be lugging about extra weight and extra seats.

Did anyone notice the last line in the add regarding the supply of most carbon body parts. You never know they may sell these separately if anyone needs anything.

Spot on, unless Stu tracks it I really don't see the point in ownership. For the roads I enjoy my GTS or a Strad 4 seater as it is comfortable and won't break my back or allow me to carry extra passengers. On the track well that's another thing..

I think I agree with you but perhaps gave bad examples. The position I take is that compromise in any walk of life (and especially with cars) never really works.

If I want a GT car, I will buy a GT car. If I want a cruiser I will buy one. If I want a track car, I will buy one.

No one car can do it all well and starting with one type and attempting to transform to another is a waste of time IMO.

Of course, I have the luxury of having a number of cars and motorbikes to be able to adopt that position and I do understand the need for compromise (I just don't like it :)) .

The weight saving would be huge but the fit might not be the best. My panel gaps are far from ideal but hey, it's a race car!
The bonnet, nose, bumper, front wings, doors, side skirts, boot, rear bumper are all a carbon kevlar material.
Below are the Maserati prices for these parts - let's hope I don't have a 'moment; in this car!

FRONT FENDER LH£2,020.00USED
FRONT FENDER RH£2,020.00USED
FRONT BONNET£6,940.00USED
REAR BONNET£6,140.00USED
DOOR RH£4,750.00USED
DOOR LH£4,750.00USED
REAR BUMPER VERSION 2014£3,560.00USED
FRONT SPLITTER VERSION 2014£1,420.00USED
REAR SPLITTER VERSION 2014£1,420.00USED

My GT is my daily, so a GT4 converted car seems a bit, well unpractical. Although at the charity events it would definitly take the spotlight and kids would line up for a ride.

Guesss 80000 dollar buys enough possible track toys, most faster and cheaper to run. But everyone on this forum isnt here because they chose the fastest, best or cheapest to run cars :)

Some new Pirelli P Zero Rossos fitted today, it had been wearing Michelins which were new on the fronts but very old on the rears as the sizes are no longer made at a commercial level. The rears should be 345 35 18 which is the same rolling circumference as the racing tyres but as these are only now made by Bridgestone for the Jag XJ220, and are £5k+ for a set of four, I opted for a slightly lower profile and narrower 335 30 18 which Pirelli make and fit the Dodge Viper. I have fitted arch liners to protect the underneath so the lower profile will probably help from a clearance standpoint but will do nothing to help the ride comfort!

The rear Speedline rims are a colossal 13" wide and the car has 20mm spacers all round so it's a miracle these wheels fit in the arches!
