Just have a search for Classic Car specialists which are all over the Country and ask there advice.
Rust is the same whether it's on a Maserati or an old Renault.
Still today one of my favourite and trusted treatments is old engine oil which is what I have done on the complete underside of my old Renault 4.
We used to do it all the time on cars back in the 70's when I started out working using a paraffin gun but a old paint brush works well.
When out in the rain the water runs off as good as any ceramic coating too ;)
The knack is getting to it quickly to protect it.

funnily enough, my garage friend mentioned old engine oil.

Following the great advice here I've just left mine at a "Dinitrol specialist" in Conyer, nr Faversham, Kent, for the works,
he came recommended by my local MOT station and knew his stuff when I spoke on the phone but I must admit feeling a little anxious leaving it there,
not the best communication trying to book in and my wife mentioned Hillbillies when she picked me up but I guess it's not the most glamorous work to do and I'd rather they concentrated on my car more than a reception and coffee machine.
Finger crossed :f7:

Kesgrave here. I use Tino at Barr Tech in Cambridge to do mine. They are very helpful. Will need the car for a couple of days.

The practice was stopped generally due to the cancerous nature of old oil I believe. Plus its very dirty!

Have a look at my earlier posts on here. Have used Rustbuster’s in Spalding for several cars inc Grancab and they are superb. Great job and very reasonable prices.

I finally got round to getting mine done last week. I used Rustbuster in Spalding on your recommendation Frank.

They have recently restarted (last week) after stopping during covid etc.
The Spalding branch that are the manufacturer of the product, no longer do the full day treatment, but are offering a half day treatment, which basically means (from what I could deduce) they don't have time to remove the underguards/arch liners etc, but treat whatever they can to get behind and inside of everything.

I decided to remove everything myself prior to going, so they could spend the time doing the treatment.
They use Coralan, which is a natural 'environmental friendly' product (hope that doesn't mean ****) which is a translucent straw colour, so you can see the condition of the metal underneath, which my MOT tester liked.
They did a good job, and it does seem a good product looking at the reviews etc (it's used in Norway a lot) but time will tell.

I was very pleased with the service, and they seemed decent people.

The cost was £300+vat, has a certificate and is guaranteed if you go back every two years for a £100 top up. They also did inside the doors, quarter panels... Etc..

If I was closer, I'd have gone to SportsItalia to have it done as you seem to get more done for your money there.
But this was close to home and I got it done at short notice, so very happy.

Glad my suggestion turned out well Sam. I payed double that at £650 + VAT for 2 days of removing all the liners, cleaning any salt off, treating with a rust converter, then applying the wax and putting everything back together on day 2, so it seems you saved half the cost by removing and replacing the undertrays and liners yourself!

You could try Protect near Buckingham. Two guys who run the company and do the work are ex classic car refurbishers. Did a great job for me complete with photos before and after. Stripped everything out, steam cleaned. dried, rust treated and then Dinitrol. Cost approx. £1K. Not cheap but my mechanic was effusive (a good word for a Friday morning) as to the standard of the work. Worth looking at their website (just google them) if you are near enough could be worth using them.

Yeah they still did the cleaning, treating and protecting, was just the donkey work I did. I makes sense really, as literally half the labour must be removing and refitting guards now days, plus the time to replace broken bits.

Certainly worth the cost for peice of mind, and I use mine all year round, so a must for me.

Dinitrol now done and thanks all for highlighting the risks

some before

9218092181

and some after

9218292183

not cheap but the price included
steam clean, dry, clean back existing rust, overcoat with Dinitrol RC800 / 900, overcoat with Dinitrol 4941B, all box sections and behind covers treated with Dinitrol Cavity wax

much cheaper than a new chassis.
