every 3 years i drop mine into a body shop get it tidied up. At this age its hard to keep them good.Wheel arches become a bit like bonnet chips, just get them redone every couple of years.
Yes, that's what I do in my Jag, I carry a basic OBDII reader in case I get a warning light. But this wouldn't work with the early cars; redsonnylee mentioned carrying a lap top, which seems a bit extreme. I could do that if I bought a pre OBD car I suppose ...The main niggles are the cel light which may appear intermittently tb or pedal pot, being able to clear one's self is so much better, as it may reappear after a few months. I just leave the code reader in the glove box lol. The suspension error light can also appear but normal lack of use causes this if a wee actuator sticks when running self test at start up.
My shortlist has already diminished by one! Nareman contacted me yesterday to let me know that the Nuvola car X702BBY is now under offer. Reflecting on the excellent advice I received on here yesterday and the remaining automatics for sale I'm concerned that none of them are OBDII. This could be a big issue for me living on the Isle of Wight, requiring a ferry trip to the Maserati Shed for diagnostics. Not wishing to be defeated by this I've been trying to understand what can be done to read fault codes without the factory code reader. I'm familiar with OBDII but not with the 3 pin FIAT system and the one that looks like an OBD connector but is presumably wired up differently? Is there some readily available kit that can be put together to cover the majority of issues that arise on the car? redsonnylee mentioned the Unidag KWP system but I assume this is limited in scope?

Now I’m biased, (and late to the party in the thread) but I’d go for that 4200 all day long. You can see from the miles/ price is just more bang for buck... and a newer, better built, lower mileage car that’s likely less problematic. Plus you will get it for at least 2 grand less than asking price, IMHO... they just do not seem to sell. Put in a bid. It’s a facelift too - to my mind better looking, more purposeful. And the facelift is the last, arguably best of the 3200/4200 breed, many of the issues honed out of them by then. As for the clutch.... yeah they wear out, but if it’s got under 50% wear (a simple plug-in check) you should get at least another 15k out of it, so depends on how much you’ll use the car.My shortlist has already diminished by one! I suppose it all depends on the car and the auction; there was a 2005 low mileage 4200 that went through The Market in December for about £14k. They seem cheap to me when you consider how much style and Ferrari technology you’re getting. Although, it isn’t a Ferrari and doesn’t drive like a Ferrari either, according to most accounts I’ve come across. If you watch the recent auction sales- 4200s regularly fail to bust the @10K Tthreshold. Auctions arent the only way to buy; and there is usually a fee on top...It honestly madness how cheap the 4200 seem to be with little reasoning frankly... Its hard to understand why a 3200 trumps a 4200 ...We're all different I guess.
A very misleading and unrealistic statement. ADG have been marque specialists for a long time. I'd be surprised if there's much (if any!) discount achievable on a well-specced facelift 4200 with such low miles in a desirable colour combo. It's strong money for a reason. Now I’m biased, (and late to the party in the thread) but I’d go for that 4200 all day long. I suppose using the same logic you could call the 3200 a re-bodied Shamal.
Welcome, if you do insist on a 3200 in the end, get an Assetto Corsa auto, life will be less of a financial nightmare as you won’t have to replace the collapsed clutch or your crank shaft.
The 4200, yes more reliable, have reached an age where component failure is high so don’t expect it to be trouble free.
Your most hassle free Maserati experience is a circa 2013 GRanTurismo Sport Aito which has been well maintained by an enthusiast with the following recently done:
Underseal
Front bushes
Camcover gasket
AC pump
Alignment so front tyres don’t inner wear
Exhaust clamps
Brakes
Now the difficult bit is getting them to part with it!
Is the 3200 how it's made or how it feel similar to the shamal ?
Shamals are now seriously expensive and was wondering why the 3200 doesn't get appreciated similarly.
Here’s some financial advice.
Dont buy a 3200.
Don’t buy a 4200.

I dont like the colours, I dont like CC boxes... It's sat around doing precious little most of it's life...
And for that sort of money...( & given it is a CC box) why not get into a sorted GS ?
After all, its the go to advice that tends to win out on this forum more often than not....
I know...and I guess they can afford to have it sit there, unsold, for some time....I was referring to the "Plus you will get it for at least 2 grand less than asking price" comment. I'd highlighted it in the quote, but it's not particularly clear.
