I know...and I guess they can afford to have it sit there, unsold, for some time....
Keep talking though...Im happy for people to talk their values up.
One thing a 3200/4200 isnt , is a wise investment !!
Anyone who speculates on classic car prices is a bit of a chancer IMHO, but did anyone see this? The 3200 is in the Top 10. The more recent models are surely still on a devaluation curve(?) https://www.hagerty.co.uk/articles/...list-10-of-britains-hottest-collectable-cars/

If you are fixated on a 3200 after six pages, then you should just go ahead and get one. I am biased, but I would recommend a sorted Gransport. It is only CC but nothing to worry about if you are not daily commuting in standing still crawling traffic. My recommendation is to speak to Richard Grace in Chester, and ask him to source you a good example of whatever you decide. His cars go through a full Autoshield Maserati specialist inspection and are prepared to a high standard from that inspection. Autoshield are experts and know this marque and all the models extremely well. I recommend them also. Would I buy a 3200? Absolutely not! Looks great but heard too many of them eat bank accounts, unreliable and parts getting difficult to get hold of and some parts simply not available. Those don't make a for a pleasant ownership experience - unless you are a masochist. There will be someone on here who says what a great and reliable car he has - but probably won't tell you how much spend was required and keeps recurring to keep it going.

It's the old "I have a mate who's uncles best mates cousin had one years ago" syndrome, if you've never lived with one you can't really comment on how bad you think they are. If you use some common sense they aren't difficult to look after at all, buy spares when they are available, whether you need them or not and it helps if you are mechanically minded, I really do feel sorry for those that need to visit the specialist at the flash of a warning light, or handle a spanner like a pig with a gripe you poor, poor souls :D

It’s a curious experience on here, given that this forum has 3200 in the title! I didn’t expected such a balance of different experiences and views; it’s very healthy in that respect. I did touch base with Richard a few weeks ago and he gave me some very good advice. I think my next step will be to go look at some cars - 3200, 4200 and Gransport - and find out what they actually feel like to drive.

Jealousy is a strange thing ya know :D
How can a 3200 command more £ than any 4200? Simple, a 3200 is just that little bit more special. ;)

The 3200 is, to my eye, definitely the prettiest of the series, but probably not the most technically accomplished. New models do actually offer some improvements; at least that’s what they thought on Top Gear. Interesting comments about the difficulty of parking with the CC at the end though.

Do they reverse uphill now? ;)

Those top gear reviews are extremely bias - essentially utter horse ****. The car was brutalised by car journalists at the time because the steering was very light compared to normal cars of the era. When you compare it to modern cars it was just very ahead of the times in terms of the driving feel.

Here is a proper review

Not the worst review I’ve seen of the 42. However, the engine is Ferrari 430 and the gearbox is 360. I have to say I love the front end feel of my spyder, and over choppy B roads it feels even more composed than my Jaaag.

To have as a piece of automotive indulgence, I’d go for the 3200. So much more pretty, with performance characteristics to keep the driver interested, and a properly good manual gearbox.

I bought an LHD car from Monaco before the RHD versions had arrived here, and used it as a daily in London for a few years. Then got a 4200 when that was launched, but returned it to the dealer within a couple of months to swap back to a last-of-the-line 3200.

But not the easiest ownership prospect these days, with several bits being tricky to find. So if ease of ownership is important, buy the newest Maserati you can afford.

Here’s some financial advice.

Dont buy a 3200.
Don’t buy a 4200.

Save up.

Buy something more modern….

Then when you think you have enough for a decent full fat V8 pm me and I’ll put u in touch with Dicky.

5 pages of bo11ocks to get to some decent advice.
Good to have you back Wattie. The 32 v 42 debate is so polarising it’s up there with politics and religion. My opinion would be to do as @allandwf says, don’t worry about it too much and buy what floats your boat. Buy as good an example as you can find. I’ve got a very nice 4200 due in next week, first one for about 4 years; yes, they’re that difficult to find.

So.... spend more money.... buy something newer that will depreciate like crazy, instead of something that’s bottomed out. Top fiscal advice Wattster ;)
