Hi All,

I'm new here. I've always wanted to buy a QP, and am probably going to bite the bullet soon. Would definitely be a ZF and ideally a face-lift version.

Came here to get some advice on PPIs and which are the reputable outfits to use.
I've heard that some don't offer a mobile service and so the car would have to come to them..... Just not sure how that would work pre-purchase.

I'm assuming the likes of RAC or AA are not considered specialized enough or are they?

As I haven't picked a car out yet, I've no idea where it might be located. But want to be able to move quickly if I do see one, so your advices would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all.

Welcome to the forum, my only advice is go and see a few without any intention of buying so that you can get a feel of what you want. Many that look shiny on the top side may have some trouble lurking underneath. An inspection by a specialist is worth the investment as the specialist should know the foibles and the costs to correct.

Good luck in your search and don't forget to post pictures when you do.

Thanks. Good advice here about seeing a few first, but I'm no mechanic, so would probably not notice some faults that a more mechanically minded person might pick up. Which specialists have people used in the past for their inspections ? And are RAC/AA to be considered ?

Not wanting to knock the AA or the RAC as a mechanic myself but they're normally doing inspections on the run of the mill family cars and not exotica.
Really you need to find a specialist near to where the car is for sale and arrange between you and the seller.
Another thing you could do is ask for it to be MOT tested but remember that is a Government specified Minimum Standard Test only really valid on the day of the Inspection.

Welcome along, you clearly have excellent taste.

Regarding inspections, have a go with the search button, using pre-purchase inspection, it will ping up some useful options.

Perfect. Thanks for that. They are very local to me, so will look them up. I thought Giallo were my closest specialist, but these guys are closer.

Just rang them for an impromptu call. What a helpful chap Mark was. Gave me some really good advice about what to look for.

Yeah, I'm not so sure either as their website is still active. Ignore the above please. Maybe Mark and I were talking at cross purposes

Are you also based in Kent then?

No, Kingston in Surrey but used to take my old 3200 there when I first purchased it about 10 years ago.

Born in Kensington but spent my youth in Richmond, moved here 25 years ago. I’m only person in my street that hasn’t converted their garage :)
Keep it unconverted!

I used to live in Twickenham and frequently enjoyed a pub crawl from the Prince Blucher to as far across Richmond Bridge as we could make. Which was never very far, if we made it that far at all. It was usually a tide-enforced layover in the Barmy Arms or the White Swan that finished us off.

Hi, it’s Mathew the owner of Giallo, to be clear we are very much in business with currently planning our twentieth birthday next year. Sadly these type of rumours can be catastrophic for a business,so please ignore them.

I’ve removed the text above that referred to this, so it will no longer appear in web searches etc.

Giallo did a thorough service on my ZF QP last month. Very knowledgeable and Matthew was a delight to work with. I would have no hesitation using them again for service/repair work or for a pre purchase inspection. :)

Hi Matthew so sorry about that. It's great to know you will be around for when I hopefully get my first Maser......if I'm not banned for life already!
Apologies again, I should have thought about saying that without verifying it first.

Would also recommend Giallo - Matthew is very knowledgeable, as Alan says, and helped me fix the essentials on my QP shortly after I purchased.
