What a great deal and a stunning car.

Such a shame the brand is loosing die-hard fans due to their choice of direction.

given the price I may even look at how the same would work for me using my GS!

I’d have a 4 seat Stradale at this price point, as I’d need the rear seats. We discussed the merits and negatives of the different possibles. Robert doesn’t require rear seats, so this makes a lot of sense. This is always the case; when 4 seats are required the options are GT Sport/Strad, Panamera and Rapide. When you’re happy with 2 seats (which is what a DB9 really is) there’s a lot of very very tempting exotica.

Are the residuals / ofp on a Strad about the same Dicky, or do Maserati expect them to depreciate more?

In some respects the GranTurismo and DB9 are similar propositions. I had a DB9 until a few years ago and loved it. But I love my GT even more now, since my sons can get in the car now that they're hulking teenagers. Definitely not possible on the DB9.

A £70k 15/15 Strad would probably have a residual OFP of around £40k, although it would be worth more. McLaren (from what I hear) and Ferrari (from what I know) are considerably more confident in their OFP’s to put their money where their mouth is, hence, your new car costing you less over the term.

Lovely car. Keep the Spyder and you have something for all weathers.

Not sure if it’s the same key as earlier cars but don’t put it in glass bit first!

The real residual is expected to be significantly more than the ballon “residual”, so in my version of the man maths calculator it equates to the QP’s value if I kept and used it for another two years based on current depreciation. There are clearly a few variables to this, but I got myself comfortable with it quite easily

Well I collected a little earlier than planned as it was ready, and the forecast this afternoon is for sleety rain. I have to say the handover was impeccably done. The car looked amazing in the showroom, sounded amazing when started indoors, and the short drive home was a real occasion. It’s now parked up in the garage next to the GS Spyder. They look rather lovely together...........oh dear. Will spend the afternoon familiarizing myself and doing the little bits of detailing you can only do yourself. Very happy indeed...

Just sounds like a great experience. I do love how Aston Martin dealers treat customers and enthusiasts or the ones I've been in do. Enjoy Robert another great car in your garage. It's seen a few in there.

Lovely car - well done. Somehow every time I think of a swap and look at Aston’s I end up in yet another Maser. Not exactly sure why though. Just happens that way.

It’ll be interesting to see where your QP crops up, and at what price. As I very much doubt an Aston main dealer will retail an old Maser.

If they have booked it in at £20k I can’t see why they wouldn’t trade it straight out at that, which presumably was their underwriting figure. I’d happily underwrite it at that.

As for the “maths”, over a couple of years it’ll probably work out at about £1k per month. Which is around about the mark for all the cars mentioned above, whether in depreciation (on a newer car) or servicing (on an older model). Of the cars mentioned, a 4 seat Strad at £60k would probably cost the least in total over a couple of years of weekend use.

Yes, it’s the equivalent of throwing the QP away over 2 years. But you’re in a very lovely AM whilst doing that, and it’s quite a bit more of a car.

And unless someone offers you near asking for your Spyder, you may as well keep it. They make a great garage pair, and it keeps you in the Maser family.

I am sad that I didn’t feel that another Maserati Granturismo is where I could put my money right now. And that’s nothing against the GT, it’s a fantastic car and amazing value for money, but it would just have felt too familiar in any spec. Perhaps I will be back when the Alfieri arrives if it is good and special enough, although I can’t help thinking that a hybrid of some description will have to go some to beat a V12 that will be used modestly.

Apart from the car, it was the price to change and finance offer that sealed it, they’ve shown my QP at £20k but I got a significant enough chunk of their car to make me feel that I was getting enough value for the QP. Doesn’t matter to me how they want to show it.

And the finance guy couldn’t quite believe the monthly payment that came back based on the computer generated residual and finance %. It’s interesting that Aston can offer a finance % for used cars not so distant from new cars, whereas I’ve not had that experience elsewhere. I guess that must show that Aston are keen to support the used market for their cars recognizing that this brings new customers to the brand who may buy new later.

Great looking car and great value. I had a look at a DB11 recently thinking that the extra space in the back over a DB9 would be enough but sadly no. A Rapide S was tempting as they drop 40%+ of their value in year 1 but they continue to drop fast with unattractive GFVs. Plus the rear seat space is a bit tighter than a GranTurismo despite the extra size and doors. The latter gives it the same problem as the QP in that they sit unloved at the back of the showroom as everyone wants a coupe or convertible. Nice move.
