knock out a couple of carefully worded letters to them and if no joy final letter that you will take legal action, keep it all in black and white, you can then do a hm and tribunals "money claim on line" max is £100k, dead easy and trust me they will soon pay attention to you once they get the court papers, best of luck

If it’s any consolation, you aren’t the first (or probably the last) to get done over with the “they all do that” line. You are in a strong position, so take Mr Crud’s advice. Just this once.

But never again. Especially when alcohol is invovled!

Ive seen reference to engine numbers but what’s the age range for variator issues?

Can't remember the engine number, but its fairly easy to find on here if you search.
But, I believe from July 2009 (59 reg) on, all GranTurismos have the updated variators.
A quick way to tell is by looking at the design of the passenger airbag. If it is in the shape of a rectangle, then that is the original variators. If it’s a neat thin strip, that’s a revised variator model. The newer passenger airbag design was introduced in July 2009 at the same time as the variator upgrade was carried out.

Useful way of knowing, thanks.

I'd really not trust that or age as a defining limit. These cars are pretty much built with whatever was at hand, it seems

Thanks. I saw that somewhere else but didn’t know how it related to age. If I’m looking at GTs it’ll be a 2008 car.

This is the problem. It does not relate directly to age, or even build number. The models that share this engine did not all change at the same time, and 'your' 2008 and car may have sat in a showroom pre-registration yet been built before my 2007 car.

4.7 and 4.2 were also (I believe) being built on the same production line

Make sense?

Yep, you’re saying they were made by an Italian ;)

Anything I look at will be affected. I think the early 4.2 is the sweet spot for GTs the later cars are too much money so hold little advantage over an Aston.

Unless you have proof it was done.

With your preference for an auto I think a 4.7 is where the value is. More grunt than a 4.2, much cheaper than an MC Shift and often found in nice blue with beige combos.

As you say, Vantage prices have dropped a chunk and are difficult to dismiss compared to an MC Shift at similar money.
