Proof that being a brilliant driver does not mean that you should be allowed to choose which company car you get. Given different choices he could be the one chasing the Schumacher record.
Blame Flav for those. I really like and respect Alonso, and think he deserves alot more than the 2WDC he has to his name

Not sure Alonso coming back is a good thing. Surely had his day. His last outing may have been with an uncompetitive car but he didn't really show his worth apart from winging every week when things didn't go his way.....He should do what all old F1 stars do....DTM........Great in his day but it's time for the old guard to move over for the new talent and there is definatily some of that around now.

Maybe so, but i see it as good for the sport to have someone like him coming back, attract more viewer etc. Though he may find the Honda he was driving better than the current Renault engine and chassis. More Cyril Abit of Bull magic, how this bloke still has a job i have no idea. Apparently they have carried the tub over into this year, with the plan being a big design push on next year. That has backfired massively as next years car has to carry over all the homologated structures from this year.

Do you think it will attract more viewers Alonso coming back. Bringing the old ones back would have the opposite effect on me. Get far more exciting seeing new blood having one over on the old brigade as that's tells me there is a future.

As good as it is to see the younger drivers in F1 the sport still needs big names on the grid, and I'm sure that Alonso's experience will be welcome in the Renault team as well. Many top level drivers, usually the better ones, have been accused of petulance over the years so I wouldn't hold that against him, and although I don't expect great things as far as results go he still gets the thumbs up from me.

Again that last lap.....Surely a champion for the future...and he is not a premadona like most.
Lets hope so and also do it in a McLaren. The car seems to be coming along nicely and best of the rest.

My only dilemma is, should they change to Mercedes next year or stick with Renault?

Will they be aloud to beat a Mercedes with a customer supplied engine???

Well, that was ok, a few exciting moments. Ferrari? oh dear not a good day. I'm all for Alonso returning he may not be right up there in the running, but he is a great ambassador for the sport, which it is sadly lacking at the moment imho.

Not got alot of choice in that matter, as its been a done deal for some time. Also, the design would be already signed off for the Merc engine by now id have thought. Its not like the old days where you can just bolt in a different engine and away you go. The PU is so complex these days with the batteries and MGU-K+H etc. Also, id rather be 2nd best to Mercedes than 2nd best to Renault. I think if they can get the car somewhere near right next year McLaren will be a force to be reckoned with.

McLaren are hardly second to Renault. McLaren left Mercedes after 20 years because they felt that they would be a second placed team to Mercedes so they went to Honda. Ron Dennis said it would take years to get it competitive but had faith in the Japanese engineers. They finally got it right in a Red Bull.

Giving his mechanics a helping hand to pack the car up, not seen that before, as if the lad wasn't likeable enough already?

Seb did it a few years back when he had just won a championship. He helped with pack down so everyone could go to the party after.

The driver is nothing without the team, well done young lad pitching in to help
Interestingly, I had dinner on Saturday with the chap who used to be the Team Manager at McLaren in the 70s (Hunt, Lauda etc) and he was adamant that the driver has never been more than 5% of the performance. Some things never change.

Shock horror, the mercs are in cahoots with the Italians and have been using the un-illegal 2019 Ferrari motor in Q3......wait..wait...nope they've been using the Maybach HL230 P30!.... Too heavy and absolutely ***** the rear tyres......if some of your employees feel compelled to dig up history, i'm happy to oblige......
