Happy Christmas to all.

I'm locked away at home working on the annual family Christmas letter. I know that many people hate these, but we work hard to try to make ours funny and self-deprecating rather than dull and boasty. Planning on a theme that describes the year's tribulations (mild for us, blessedly) without actually acknowledging the crnvr*s. eg: "We were looking forward to their river cruise in May, but unfortunately that was cancelled for some reason; high levels of something, I think – probably too much water in the Rhine." Not side-splitting, but it's a work in progress.

It's all going to be Zoom meets for a while.....
Eb

For larger groups, I've been having fun playing with some 'live social networking' tools as a substitute for Zoom, where you can move around a virtual space and chat to people who are 'near' you. Works well for the 'family Zoom meet' where there are more than about 6 people, as you can casually split up into separate conversations.

My two current favourites are SpatialChat and GatherTown - both free for low numbers. GT has a weird 1980s video game vibe to it, but has more functionality than SC (which looks better).

(Sorry if a few members of the forum find the people in the images too 'diverse' (there's even a ginger), but that's how the world actually looks.)

Happy Christmas to all. Can't quite work out whether or not this would count as virtue signalling, but it's the first year in while I haven't made a t|t of myself at an SM event or gathering!

Let's hope for some opportunities to rectify this sorry state of affairs next year!

Also on the Christmas theme, I bought a 'Christmas lights projector', which looked good in the shop. Total waste of money. Feeble lights unless used inside in a darkened room.

Don't believe this guy:

We hate these... have no interest in reading about someone going to deepest Peru or what illness they had... the latter being of particular note that why wait till Christmas to tell... as for bragging about how many babies people have spat out!!!!

Charlie and I did a satirical one a few years back on how we created world peace and solved potential motion as well as a trip to the moon, which had no atmosphere..... Its just Facebook for old people.

Yes, I think our best was the totally over the top satire, which included our 10-year-old being made chairman of the WWF and flying his helicopter to work in Geneva each day.
