Insurance recommendations..

Evening,

We are looking at buying a Ghibli Diesel, but seem to be struggling to get insurance?
some companies are saying the don't cover 'that type of car'?

My Husband has only ever had company cars for the last 30 years, so doesn't have actual No claims, but can get letters from previous employers to state no accidents. He will be the main driver.

We live in a safe area, with a locked, gated drive.
Managed to get a quote from a local broker of £936!! Which seems astronomical.

Any info of advice would be great, thank you!!

Adrian Flux are competitive.
I've just switched from Flux to Hastings Direct
which offered fully comp below £200. I'm 55.
Try a few of the comparison sites.
Results will broadly be the same, but
sometimes there are surprising differences
for no reason that's obvious.
Also, have a look on Google for guidance
on how best to answer questions.
Something I'd only heard of recently was
an insurer attempting to weight my quote because
the car type was new to me. A convertible.
I assured them that I'd been driving soft tops for
thirty years, which got the weighting removed.
Phoning definitely helps, as you can help the
person (who is often on commission) reduce their
quote by making your case, as you did above.

As above, try AIB as Maserati friendly and Adrian Flux.

Interestingly I had a conversation with my insurers about no claims bonus. I had two cars, both with 11yrs NCB, I sold one about 11 months back and didn't renew the insurance.
I called them for an NCB proof letter - no problem (Performance Direct - Good people).
Approached my (now) ex 2nd insurance company to ask if they offered and discount on insuring s second car with them.
They said no. But interestingly told me they would NOT have accepted the NCB letter in any case saying that NCB relates to the driver - not the car - so I couldn't use it.....
Weird. But they wouldn't budge.
But it shows that it is possible to have a verified insurance history count.
So keep trying the companies.
Along with Performance Direct also try Adrian S Flux. I have found as a broker they have been very helpful in the past.
Tip: insurance is cheaper on comparison sites midweek, and around 21 to 28 days before you need it!!

If your using comparison websites make sure you use private/incognito on your browser otherwise every time you go back in the price goes up.

I have just renewed my Maserati and van and on both I have found Aviva to be 1/3 cheaper for premium policy insurance (agreed value etc.).

Second for Aviva. Been with them for a few years on a multi car for the Mas and the daily (which was an Audi TTS) so I wouldn't have thought a Ghibli was an issue.

Intersting .... Aviva told me they couldn't / wouldn't insure my Gran Turismo when I bought it.

My multi car cover is with Admiral and they have always price matched (if you ask) so have ben the cheapest for me in recent years.

NFU are very competitive for me and will not show up on comparison sites.

Me too - just renewed with Admiral - 5 cars plus Household. Total Premium had gone up by about £150. Gave them a call just to tweak a few mileages down. In the end came out nearly £400 cheaper than the original renewal price. ALWAYS worth a phone call (and my Maser' is still cheaper than my 24 year old Son's V40 D2 - it annoys the **** out if him )

This is the first time ever that I am not going to look for an alternative quote. I am with Performance direct, and just this morning they informed me that they would automatically renew my insurance, unless I asked them not to, obviously. The quote is less than last year, and it’s less than £140, comprehensive with legal cover. Not for the Maserati, but still it’s a for a 5L V12. Is insurance getting cheaper ?. At that price it’s just not worth the trouble shopping round. (Although I have always done so in the past)

Is insurance getting cheaper ?

I did see something that this was the case. Of course far fewer miles driven, fewer accidents, fewer claims. One might exepect.
Except, of course, that all insurance companies, as with all big business, are run by immoral and corrupt people only interested in lining their own pockets at the expense of the customer....

I am with Admiral but come renewal I will have to change as they will not insure with modifications

Try the Thatcham branch of A plan

Has to be the Thatcham branch. They specialise in performance , you won't get the same price from another branch

I paid £253 with Performance Direct for this year - Policy is with LV

Lives on the driveway but I do have a mileage limit of 4000 so depending on how you use it that may make a difference

I am 52 though

Guess it all depends on where you live, age, experience and claims history though

I just used the usual comparison sites for my QP when I had it (sigh) and quotes were around £200 depends on your circs
Did my Merc the other day and changed my home address to my partners and I got a £60 reduction just for that
So fool about but don't lie
