We have recently had a very large confident hooded crow turn up in the garden, and it seems to have driven away the previous plague of wood pigeons. But I will have to watch for bad behavior.

Pigeons are another pain in our garden, but I'm not a loud to get rid of them as the missus feels sorry for them, as they're obviously in 'couples'

I'd watch your new situation.... Anyone in a hood will be up to no good!

I've got pidgeons too carping all over my property leaving hyuuge piles of ordure. I've invested in a catapult, not a hunting one that hurls ball bearings, but one for fishing folk to scatter bate. (Phnaar before anyone else gets in there Phnaar (again)!) Launches mud balls at the feckers which break up in mid air like shot. Not been hugely effective as it relies on me scouting for them but at least I feel I'm getting one back on them when I do scare them off!

Pea shingle in the tops of your flower pots (tell the Mrs it is to suppress weeds & retain water) will make ammo ready to hand!

I keep a Diablo and 8mm bearings on top of the gun cabinet in the office for instant access and the .22 air rifle in a slip bag next to it for anything fury with a bald tail spotted in the garden! H&N Terminator slugs are absolutely mad, like armour piercing/apple corers! It is so quiet too, just a little pop and the neighbours are none the wiser.

Really? Thought it would take much longer than that. It is very light scratching, but it is on every verticle panel.

If you can feel the scratches with your nail then it will need wet sanding to level those out.

If it is really light scratching without a lip you can feel with your nail then you should be able to take them out with a DA machine. If your comfortable with a DA machine 2 to 3 stages on a GT takes around 16 hours to do the whole car.

Pick the panel that shows the most scratches. Wash the panel / car and then wipe down the panel with an APA.
Do a couple of passes with your DA machine with a mid pad and mid compounds and then buff of the residue. If the scratches have come out or your just left with very light scratches and swirls then just do the rest of the car with a mid level compound and then do a final polish with the light compound and soft pad.

If there are still some heavier scratches then do the panel again with a harder pad and heavier duty compound buff off and then do a pass with the mid compound again. If that clears everything but the lightest scratches and swirls then a final pass with the soft pad and light compound should bring it back up to the pre crow level. It will mean the rest of the car will need leveling to that panel so either 2 or 3 stages will be needed across the whole car depending on how many stages you needed to treat the first panel.

When your dealing with scratches makes sure you wipe down the panel with APA after buffing and before you start the next stage.

My indicated 1 hour time was assuming it is the passenger door that needs wet sanding and the rest of the car was ok after clean up.

A gun or antifreeze breadcrumbs??

ps a 2 stage paint correction will do, don’t need to fork out for ceramic. It’s probably 2 days work so £400-500.

Only got a co2 pistol here, but I've killed rats with it before, will at least give them a sore bum.

Price on the 2 stage sounds about what I was expecting/been told, thanks for that.
I'm getting tempted by the ceramic coating as I've been offered it at a (relatively) good price.
Is it something you would steer away from for any reason (other than cost)?

I don't seem to have the time I once did for detailing my own cars, so thought it might make life easier.

Thanks for such a detailed reply!

I'm just weighing up whether I have the time to do it properly myself.

Ceramics are great, and are as good as the applicator, the owner and the equipment you’ll use to clean it when it’s on. You look after your car so I reckon you’d be impressed with how it performs. Only needs a snowfoam and rinse when washing.

Is that a recommendation? Have you got one? Is it effective?

Any air rifle at the legal unlicenced 12 ft/lb power level will be sufficient.
Please don't use an air pistol that are max 6 ft/lb, but most are no more than 2 ft/lb especially if using a co2 cylinders. They simply aren't powerful enough and more likely not to deliver a humain clean kill.

It's generally regarded as very effective, if you're close enough and accurate enough. Max power is about 9ft lbs and that can be modified I understand but....

...as the honourable gentleman says.

My comment was more a general suggestion that it can be comparatively cheap and simple to get something that will do the job. Takes some effort to be good enough though.

Wow, can't believe this. Never seen that before.

Like others have said a good DA or detailer should get this out. No need for insurance I'd suggest.

I've got similar issues with pigeon pests at the moment. Two down and about 98 to go!

Got an air rifle but the pigeons learn who you are and fly off quickly when the see me. They recognise faces bizarrely and learn it is you. From a good shielded spot it is possible though.

I've heard crows don't like scrunched up black bin bags put down with stone or brick on top to hold them down as it can look like a dead crow.

I have just got a green laser pointer that is amazingly effective at making them fly off quickly and easily. Trying to ascertain over time if they will find another location or not so jury out. However is a quick effective temp solution to get rid of immediate noise of loud cooing.
