The BMW ones fit well. Didn't even need to fight/stretch it on but it's not loose either. Still need to get some wire to tightly hold it.

Please provide some insight into how you removed the rear upper control arms.
The bolt on my 06 GS Spyder cannot be removed as it is against the bodywork.

As Tulit says, you lower the subframe. It doesn’t need to be removed completely, just undo the mounting bolts until the wishbone bolt will come out.

Best of luck!

Need to replace the ball joint covers and can't find the correct OEM BMW part numbers over here. Would love to get them at $10 each rather than a few hundred for 4. Anyone have the correct part # to get from BMW ?

Yup but those part #'s don't show up on a BMW site - only on the polyboots site

It think that’s because it isn’t a BMW part, the description says “designed especially for” which suggests they designed and made it.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but these BMW boots - are they suitable for both upper and lower rear joints, or just the upper as photographed?

Quick question but I'm not sure if anyone will know. I'm replacing the lower control arm tomorrow which looks like a fairly straightforward job. While I'm doing this, I'd ideally want to replace the boot on the upper ball joint as it's starting to crack, but I think the joint is still good. With the lower arm removed, is there enough flex in the various components to detach the upper ball joint from the knuckle without the rigmarole of dropping the subframe to remove the two bolts and arm completely?

If you remove the hub, including the ARB links, driveshaft and damper you won’t need to remove the inner bolts. Whether it is less work is debatable.

I may be able to help here because I just did boot replacement. I have some posts up on ML. To answer your question, yes, there is enough flex to detach the upper ball joint without dropping subframe and removing arm completely. I used the below video as a guide.
