GS Fun on a Skidpad

Fabulous outing today to our local motorsport facility. Sunny winter day saw the Hillclimb club was doing their thing over the back from us, the MG Club was holding a motorkhana nearby and the BMW Club hired the skidpad for 6 hours. My BMW developed a warning light during the week so the GS had an outing. We had 5 laps each then join the back of the queue to go again.
First time round I couldn't disable MSP, so it just wouldn't respond properly. Second time figured out you have to hold the MSP button until the light comes on the dash, then it was FUN!!!! BMW owners were very impressed with a Maserati at full noise. Some of the MG / motorkhana people came over to watch the GS too.
It was a great experience to feel how the car really handles. It was quite predictable a fun to hold a power slide down the straight. Also discovering the limits of sideways adhesion. Eventually I was able to master the scandanavian flick at the hairpin. I couldn't get it to respond to a handbrake turn though, it just beeped at me, spoilsport.
At the end of the day it was off to home to give the car a big wash.
Oh and one father of a BMW E46 M3 driver came up and told he had a 2005 GS in Hong Kong for 8 years. Silver grey w carbonfibre interior pack. Sold it with 50,000 miles on it. I took him for a spin, literally.

Some more photos, supplied by others at the event. I think there might be a new avatar photo in this lot.
The blond passenger in some of the photos is a recently retired pro tennis player Monique who was there.
I rode with her instructing and she rode with me. What a day.

Looks like a great day out! Lovely looking car, too.

A long, long time ago we have a forum-organised skiddy day at Donnington (if I remember correctly; sounds wrong, Anyway...) which was great fun and I learned a lot. Well worth doing.

SM should organise another one.
I brought one of my sons with his WRX STI. He learnt so much, yet at first gear speeds and improved tremendously with each turn.
It is a safe environment to get a proper feel for your car.
