My dear mother had one of these when I was a teen and she let me use it from time to time View attachment 86617- juuuust reached 60 in second gear - but I'm sure it can't have been good for the engine :))
My mum also had a TS in silver which she reluctantly let me take down to Cornwall for my last year of college in the mid 80's (they weren't confident my Beetle would make it). I thought it was really nippy at the time! I can remember racing a Mini Cooper (not S) down some country lanes, he couldn't take me but I also couldn't loose him!...........It died soon after returning home from Cornwall; I think I killed it!!

French car trivia ahoy : the first car to appear on screen in the first episode of 'The Persuaders' in 1971 was a Renault 16 ;).

Still my favourite French car of all (not to mention one of my all time favourite cars, period) and definitely on 'the list' is the SM though....

The 16 I kinda get there is after all a Morris Marina owners club in the UK but a non running SM, have you been on eBay after a bottle of génépi?

Well gone and bought the 69 Renault 16 TS and a Citroen XM 3.0 V6 24 valve non runner for fun both being delivered next week on a transporter as France is a big country.

Nice one Phil, I bet you can't wait to get them home and get stuck in with them both. Over on Pistonheads there are quite a few posters who've bought new toys now that the lockdown has all but finished, it musty be catching, and I for one find it quite uplifting in a way :).

(I've just spent the last hour or so watching all sorts of old Maser stuff on youtube and am gagging to get my sticky mitts on the 430 when t arrives)

The XM was a flagship car in its day and the interior is very special indeed.
It's got some wiring issues and I like a challenge especially as it was cheap.
Really it's a modern DS and can only go up in value and nearly €50,000 new.
The 16 is welding and brakes it's on the button and drives which was a bonus as I presumed it wasn't and it's one owner 90,000 kilometers.

Id love an XM but a non runner  They’re still the high pressure hydraulic spheres aren’t they?
