hi,
Anyone have any pointers on this, I keep getting engine management light on.
When I check error code p1665, I've cleared this off several times and even changed the brake switch but seem to keep getting the error come back :(
Does anyone have any advice to fix this.
Cheers

I had the engine light come on a few years ago and even after changing the brake switch it would sometimes return. On one occasion l tried wiggling the connectors under the bonnet and the light went out when l touched the abs connector. So l isolated the battery unplugged the abs unit worked the plug in and out a few times to clean the contacts and the fault has never returned.

Thanks rex thanks I Will defo give this a try, can't be nothing major as dash red bulb light keeps coming on then off etc, suggest some loose contact.

Hi everyone, still not had no luck sorting this problem, if anyone has any pointers would be appreciated, so basically intermittently the brake lights do not light up. When I press the brake pedal, the red ‘light bulb problem light’ comes on on the dashboard then stays on and I have no brake lights, I've tried changing the brake light switch still no good, has anyone experienced this?
Cheers

P1665 appears to be brake pedal switch inconsistent. Although I am sure it popped up on my car when the toothed wheels in the hubs for the ABS were corroded. Its brake related for sure. The brake lights not working do point back at the brake pedal switch. perhaps wiring and not the pedal switch itself?

Hi Davy thanks for your reply, I recently replaced rear brake discs and had calipers sent for refurb, I'm starting to wonder if I have done something wrong when putting back together which could affect the light issues I have now? I only have basic knowledge is this connected?

It might be. Certainly if you got some rust or **** stuck in the little toothed wheels or indeed damaged or dislodged the connectors to the wheel sensors this might be the route of the problem. I found on one occasion that just cleaning the toothed wheel with a wire brush cured the error, they are hard to get in at, but are exposed to a lot of road salt and mud so do get clogged up, and also rust. The connectors are also not the best, typical Italian wiring, worth an inspection and at least clean with contact cleaner. Look for corrosion on the pins or contacts, and try to make sure its watertight when you re-assemble.

Hi Davy, thanks for the advice, when I changed the rear discs I purely old one off new one on, I'm presuming the abs sensor and tooth wheel are behind the shoe plate? Don't think I went that far back. Although I did smoke everything with brake cleaner thou. I don't think brake system all that well protected. Your advice is appreciated
Cheers mate

Hi, have you tried the brake switch manually removed from vehicle but still connected to wires and push switch with your thumb and see if brake lights come on as the brake switch is adjustable

I haven't tried that one cliff, although I have tried a new switch it's strange because it's ok when I drive off then after about 10mins the red blub starts coming on intermittently I. E not brake lights. Cheers

Hi, When I bought mine the brake lights didn’t work unless I pushed very veryhard on the brake pedal, when I removed the switch I realised that you can set the plunger of the switch to what ever depth you want so now my brake lights come on with light braking.

I also had a new brake switch that came with my car still in the box and didn’t work, had to take it to bits and clean the contacts.

Mine is a 4200 not sure if stop switch is the same thou but I think it is

To eliminate the switch just in case it’s faulty, In the picture iv marked the two terminals that switch the brake lights on so when the brakes lights stop working pull the switch get a bit of wire and short the same terminals in the plug that connects to this switch making sure you are shorting the right ones

Not sure on that as that would mean that if your having trouble with abs your going to get rear ended because you have no brake lights but there again these do have odd electrics.
