Looking forward to see you getting the work done and giving her the love she needs quickly before they start salting the roads though.

Congrats on the purchase, very interested in following as i am also on a similar journey having bought my GT in April. Subframe and front bushes done for me so hoping to move onto some minor cosmetic parts next. Should start a dedicated thread really, but there is some info in my newbies thread.

Good luck!

I feel like you have the exact same to do list as me...this is my next one! Are these the SGS ones? My boot slams shut so hoping this solves the issue?

With regard to the subframe and bushes I had Dale @ Prestige come and do it - he also did a PPI for me so booked it in once he had given me some haggling items. Think he is off getting married currently and has been super busy so might be a bit of a wait for him. Well worth it though.

What are you hosting images on? Need to sort mine then i can add a thread.

Go for it chap, I love a project as well, wouldn't know what to do with myself if I didn't have a car to tinker with, good luck in getting her back to what she should be.

Are you going to remove the whole wrap? Or rewrap the peeling bit?

I don't think I have seen the result of a wrap being removed and the state of the paintwork underneath.
The rest is just, time effort and money. Don't rush anything, plan your tasks as some require the same parts being removed, so while you're there do another.
For instance, if you have to get to the back of the engine, you have to remove the windscreen scuttle, so while it's out clean out the drain holes and the scuttle itself, and replace the wipers. Also, check the brake fluid reservoir. They can crack, like the water expansion tank.

Nice to see a fresh project thread. Keep it up, you'll get there eventually depending on how long you want to keep it

I had a similar experience to you with my manual 4200 and went on to have some of the best moments in my life with my Maserati. The highs do come with the lows, love it, hate it... Become irrationally irate at Maserati for the lack of parts support

Get stuck in, make friends with people you get on with as you will need a support group some days. But in all seriousness there are people I have met through this forum that have helped me through some tough times so it's true that you make friends in the most unlikely places :D

Anyways here is my project thread if you fancy some bedtime reading: https://www.sportsmaserati.com/index.php?threads/fiftys-manual-4200-build.28073/

If I haven’t said it on the other thread, congrats on your purchase. I’m loving this project thread already! :thumb3:

So I spoke with Mililore today. New subframe's are available, should I need a new one that is. I might just buy one for the garage .... now that might be called an investment opportunity ;)

FYI - Eurospares have them too, and some good used ones by the look of it.

Thank you. Lots to do and lots of fun to be had.
You youngsters don't know what fun is until you have changed the oil/waterpump unit on your back with the car on axle stands on the driveway at home and your in your 50's.
Not nervous at all knowing that the pump cost you over £1500.
The hard-on you get though when you start her up with 5 bars of oil pressure and she sounds awesome as your running her with just her manifolds on you will never forget :)

But did you use mole grips? ;)

You Brits have an image of car-lovers, but i am surprised to see again and again cars that have been driven when they clearly should have remained garaged because of salt on your roads. And drivers that are surprised by rust-inflicted damage... When was the last time you had the car inspected? And when you did, nobody told you to have the car treated? Having said that, rust-prevention with Maserati and Alfa/Lancia/Fiat is "poor" to say the least...
All matt-black parts underneath only have a (less than) paperthin bit of paint over the bare metal, no zinc or any other protective layer. So, if you love your car: get it treated!

Martin,
I didn't mate they get used on the restoration projects when welding.
Just look after your beautiful GT and I won't need to use them for you :)
Well if you do use them on him, at least you know they adjust to grip small things.

Assuming the light has broken tabs, are the tables still there?
If so they can be successfully plastic welded, there is a nifty hot staple gun that can be used to strengthen the welded joint
