Potential 4200 Sell Price?

I decided to do a new dedicated thread for this one. Any thoughts on what I should be looking to sell my 4200 for?

It is pretty impossible to find anything equivalent for sale now and have not seen anything like it since I bought it nearly 7 years ago so quite hard to ascertain what it would be worth.

It is a late 2007 facelift car. The first owner bought it new 2007 and had it for 8 years with main deal Meridian services annually for warranty period then Miles @ Emblem looked after again annually without fail. Then I bought late Jan 2015 and had annual services first with Marios @ Autoshield when I had the secondary decat done, then 2 services with Paul @ McGrath, then with Aldous @ AV ever since.

It had only done just over 10k miles after the first owners 8 years and has done 5k miles in my 7 years so just ticked over 15k miles.

It is pretty mint as many of you know. Always been kept in the garage under a soft indoor OEM Maserati cover on a trickle charger,.never driven in the rain and never seen a winter since new.

It drives perfect and must be one of the very best 4200's out there.

I have added remote controlled valved Larini back boxes and secondary decat, carbon fibre/leather OEM 4200 steering wheel and Formula Dynamics extended carbon fibre paddle shifters. I have all the old parts to put back to bone stock as well.

Any ideas and thoughts would be much appreciated.

Put it back to stock and I’d suggest it is retail £24950, private £21-22k; if given a clean bill of health by Marios, Voicey, McGraths, or Emblem, or Matt at Sports Italia.

Hi rockits. Sounds like a keeper to me!!! but if you do sell, and you do put it back to stock Id be very interested in your valved Larinis. I'm running unvalved Larinis at present and its a bit much in some scenarios.

Sure, I'll let you know. I've had another contact me about the mods too so seems like I'll be better returning to stock. The valved Larini back boxes, secondary decat, the carbon fibre/leather steering wheel and FD carbon fibre paddle shifters are about £5k new so I'm sure I'd be able to sell these separately so that makes sense to do. I also have straight through rear pipes too which do sound great but I found a bit too much volume for me all the time.

I have contacted the previous/first owner as we had an agreement that I would offer him the car as first option if I even came to sell it. He has come back to me and is interested in buying the car back so just sending him over some details.

I would be interested in the carbon fibre paddle shifters Dean, if you do return to stock. are the secondary decat Larini? if so might be interested in them as well.

Good estimate.
Mines in same condition at 18K miles but classico.
I'd be happy if selling mine at £20k the same as the insurance valuation, but think it would be a hard sell in this climate.

Sure, no worries. I'll let you know how it all goes.

The secondary decat was a stainless steel custom fabricated item bespoke made just for my car by Marios @ Autoshield. As were the straight through rear pipes he also did at the same time that I have too.

I think the best examples of any car will always sell much easier as don't come up often.

I spent a year looking, waiting and trying to find the right car. When I found it I agreed to buy it within 24 hours. Whenever I have dithered on a car I've always lost out so I just go for it now asap whenever I find anything that hits the nail on the head.

If I hadn't bought mine when I did I've not seen one since that I noticed that I would have wanted the same or bought.

What year is your car Mike?

2002.
Like yours only 11K miles when I bought it, done 7K miles over the last 10 years, garaged all its life under a cover, never seen a winter.

I dont see how running repairs make for a more valuable car...its the est you have to do to score the average IMO...
im with Cherished Cars myself- and I pretty much pay more for less !
I have spent on a respray and other upgrades too...
Think I need to have a word regarding AV - Im clearly not being pushy enough !

I've created a Google Drive folder to share for anyone wanting to get an idea of what she looks like.

I can see my blue Shamal (L111 MAS) in one of your pictures. Nice! Can't remember where that was though.
Also, the final picture in the gallery might of a different car, as it shows a rear side reflector (as would typically be found on a US car, for example).
Anyway, yours is clearly a very lovely car, so GLWS.

Thanks Ewan.

Nice Shamal ;)
I think that might have even been a pic from the original ones the 1st owner sent me when I bought the car. Would have been between 2007-2014 I suspect as I bought the car late Jan 2015.

He lived in Fovant and had the car serviced at Emblem after the 3 year Meridian period. I met Miles at Brooklands one year and had a great chat with him. He was telling me that he always worked on the car and knew it very well.

Well spotted on the rogue US pic! I think I was looking at wheel colours and centre caps at the time as I had mine redone in Grigio Mercury @ Lepsons one year when it was at AV. I ordered new centre caps to match the colour change as obviously the original silver ones wouldn't cut the mustard.

FYI Tim. I had my Alfa Spider insured with a run of the mill company who offered AV.
I told them what I bought the car at. Listed all the work done, which was considerable.
And sent them links to advertised cars on Autotrader of similar spec, to justify the AV.
They didn't ask for repair or parts receipts, when I offered them copies and they didn't
ask for photos. Which other insurers have done for my Granturismo.
Its definitely worth a conversation. Because I had any supporting docs and photos that
they could reasonably ask for, there was no push back whatsoever.
Clearly many customers do this daily.
Good luck! ;)

Sure...I’ve had similar experiences .
The issue is my own difficulties with putting a value on the car....
I tend to think that 4200 values are pretty weak, and they went soft soon after I bought.
I should have that conversation, and stop underselling it to myself.
One of the reasons I went with them was their readiness to accommodate AV tbh...

I don't think I was pushy (not really my style) but did say market value was a difficult one given the repairs that had been done - the car was cheap and at least I know where I am with repairs, etc
