I’m not sure where you’re shopping, Chris?! An integrated system with a remote control (not touch screen) is about £900 fitted. A touch screen is closer to £1,200 fitted. Matt’s system is great value.

I bought a CarPlay system for my Stelvio which I fitted myself (and one to Dem’s Giulia) that work from the standard I-drive controls. Excellent value @ €350 delivered from Italy and about 30 mins to fit. Happy to pass details on to anyone looking for similar.

I’ve had a look round for the 4200 interface box and sadly it does not exist so it’s a no for a 4200 version.

It’s an interesting idea and would all depend upon finding a CAN interface box that works with the 4200. Let me have a look

+1 for a desire for a 4200 kit. Just saw the post about it not being possible with your current approach.

One of these:

Plus a double DIN head.

Plus fitting....

Probably not £4.5 depending on what you go for but easily £3

Those BenHUR units are awful things. They look like something from a 80s Datsun and are known to fail regularly. At £1,600 they’re a very expensive way to cheapen a Bentley’s interior. £3 would be too much to charge!

Thanks to MAF for fitting my car play, I’m so happy with the unit and for £350 it’s a bargain!

Is there an upgrade path from V1.0 to V2.0? If so, what's involved, what's the approximate cost and how long does it take?

Thanks
Having just got my car out after 6 months the drawbacks of the v1 in my car are coming back to me.

Anyone gone from v1 to V2?

1. It’s actually resistive but a good one and works perfectly. I looked into capacitive when designing the V2.0 kit but it’s not possible. You will have no issue with this screen.

2. Connection is Bluetooth for both Apple and Android. You can have wired if you wish. It does not run a separate dongle like V1.0 did and resolved a lot of issues.

3. Yes full streaming. Also the criticism of the V1.0 was the non duplex voice calls due to the use of a dongle. It’s perfect in V2.0, high quality non lag calls and crystal clear.

4. Installation takes a solid 8hrs with no time to slack off. I am very proud of the way I do it. It’s not rushed, all cabling is neat, finished correctly, ends terminated properly and zero evidence of cabling other than a usb that hangs out the carpet that can be tucked away.

5. It’s £600 hardware and £400 fitting and in my book worth every penny. I was due to supply them as diy kits but for the £400 fitting fee I would say that’s the best £400 you will ever spend.

6. Reverse camera is included and OK quality. It’s 3hrs to fit as running the cable down through the original conduit and hidden means the removal of the rear seats and parcel shelf. I am very careful and never damage anything as I know how it all comes a part.

This kit requires the AUX and USB socket in the glove box. I can now also fit it to non AUX glovebox by way of a modulator and costs an additional £250 parts a labour.

I ordered 20 kits that arrived 3 weeks ago and have fitted 8 already. It’s proving extremely popular.

If anyone would like a demo feel free to pop in to SportsItalia by appointment.

Probably a silly question. Does the existing audio/nav need to work i.e. does this overlay the existing system and use it?

It is an overlay on the screen, which will need to work. I imagine it doesn’t matter if the NIT itself is working.

Thank you, Zep.
That's the word I was after - NIT. So if the NIT is dead - which does happen - will it matter? If not, this is not only a great development but also digs folk out of a dead NIT situation.

The screen needs to have power (white screen) but there is no dependency on the NIT itself.

Yes I’ve seen these virtual dashes and it’s a neat idea. The problem is you need all three bits, the CarPlay and the heater screen to complete the look but the graphics are far too Xbox arcade game.

I feel it would work if they reworked and toned down the graphics to something less trashy and more on brand with the oem pallette of royal blue/grey

Wondered if anyone knows if these new wireless adapters can be used with the original wired CarPlay setups, to make the connection wireless? One of these is what I’m looking at;

In theory this would just plug in the external USB port instead of the Apple charging/data cable, thus making the connection wireless...but just wanted to check if anyone has actually done it

That’s correct, I had one on my V1 SM CarPlay. Only issue, phone does not duplex so only one of you can talk at once or it cuts out. Apart from that, brilliant.

you will have to replace the wired one as the two will conflict.
