Think I need to get up to local dealer see if they’ll let me try a Y cable see if it works.

Thanks folks.
So regards Bluetooth I am connected and using hands free calls but think my idrive is too old for streaming music as well. Internet search seems to suggest version 7 or later so mine is obviously before that? Edit. Just tried again on the usb it’s saying not supported

And I did try looking for it in usb but wasn’t showing. The aux will just be the 3.5mm jack plug won’t it.

Outrun I’ll get a look at that thanks. Wasn’t sure if these tune to air things work with original idrive but regardless I’ll check that option out thanks

It has revoltionised my 5 series and makes it feel up to date. Mine is a 2014 car and I love it and want to keep it for a good while so it's cool to have carplay now for it. I paid £250 installed. Worth it all day.

I did click on the link, need to get a proper look at it. I assume mirror screening means you can flick between idrive and CarPlay?

My problem is I have no idea who does car media anywhere near me. I’m Teesside and would travel if needed, Leeds, Newcastle etc I just don’t know where the experts are near me

I have an F11 BMW and recently had an MMI box installed which gives full CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as screen mirroring and so on. Forget the factory stuff, it's out of date now. Could not recommend the upgrade more.

This sort of box, although the guy that did it didn't tell me the brand he used, it's the same type of functions as this one.

I must say this looks very swish, if I still had it, I would go for something like this.

I'm based in Newcastle and took my BMW to SC Motorworks (https://www.scmotorworks.co.uk) for servicing and software updates. They specialise in BMW's and Mini's. Might be worth asking them, as I'm sure other BMW owners have requested similar systems to be installed.

Thanks for that will keep them on the list if I don’t find a simple solution. Surprised how much I can’t find out online usually these subjects are done to death.
I was hoping for a ‘yeah jsit get a Y cable and bobs your uncle’ but I can’t find a definitive answer yet.

Nice to see another north east GT owner as well

Think the iDrive changed in 2013 from CIC to NBT - think only NBT supports USB music streaming

I had a 2013 M135i and I know it was the oldest version that BMW would support for connected drive with live traffic - that one did support USB music streaming too

I think you’ve nailed it here. I’m just a year to late on having the NBT. Very informative info here and a table near the bottom that shows music capabilities https://www.bimmer-tech.net/blog/item/54-bmw-cic-nbt-nbtevo

Think my option here is jsit to rip a load of music off my iTunes to mp3 and looks like I have an 80mb hard drive in the car I can upload to

Just been into BMW to see if I could at least try a Y cable and if worked I’d buy it but he said they don’t sell them anymore. Gave me a part number though but will see if anyone I know has one to try.

Well took a while but a new 10” HD screen with built in CarPlay installed.

Works a charm, all the console dial / controls still work and steering wheel buttons. Flicks between CarPlay and idrive.

I’ve even enabled Siri for the first time in my life and that controls the CarPlay spot on. And the big one for me it reads my music play list directly from my phone.

Job officially jobbed
