    Highgate Maseratis

Ouch not a great place for that to happen, was it on the way up or down?! I've seen cyclists go over that in rush hour so it can't have been the craziest thing to happen over that flyover!

    Highgate Maseratis

Nah it was a hard top and probably black (although I only saw it at night). Great to know that a few other folks manage with the CC gearbox around London - itching for the right one to come up so I can join you!

    Highgate Maseratis

Hi folks Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this - but I saw a lovely dark 4200 leg it up Highgate Hill about 7:45pm last night - and saw it the night before driving more sedately as well. Is it anyone off here? Cheers R

    Car inspections and gearboxes

Cool, thanks - yes it's one I'm looking at - working out whether it's going to be a show stopper or not. A tension wire sounds like it might not be that expensive (Maserati part price naivety coming through :))

    Car inspections and gearboxes

The more I've read the more I think I want the CC given that the manual has a pretty poor reputation (and in fact was described as the opposite of the s2000's gearbox!) so I'll wait for that. Also the integration with the skyhook system and the fact that it's partly what the car was famous for...

...and another one has just turned up on Autotrader. Same colours, higher miles, less money and nearer - however it's a manual. Whilst the CC is one of the key benefits of the car, I would assume the manual costs less to maintain (less clutch wear, fewer relays/F1 pumps to worry about) and is...

    Car inspections and gearboxes

Thanks guys, I know you're right really - they are super rare and I don't want to end up with the wrong run so need enough to compare with! Spoke to the guy last night and hopefully setting something up, Dicky very kindly said he would take an initial look to qualify but I feel a day trip to...

    Car inspections and gearboxes

I suppose when you put it like that I could be tempted (Virgin want the usual arm/leg for the ticket but that's going to be peanuts compared to the average Mazzer bill!) Will have to check with 'er indoors...meant to be going to Brighton on a car from 1902 this weekend but could squeeze a more...

    Car inspections and gearboxes

Thanks all, sound like good ideas - haven't got any free time for a bit so won't be able to make it there myself currently (I admit it's only about 4 hrs from London!) Would want to buy at less than that price though in spite of the low mileage, or get some decent money PX on my S2000...

To continue my comprehensive survey of interesting looking Spyders I don't end up buying - this one looks like it might be worth a gander, however North Wales is a long long way away...Do any of you know this car...

    Driving advice

Congrats on your new purchase! Hoping to join you in the ranks of Spyder owners soon when the right one comes on to the market (and hasn't already been promised to someone else!) From what I've picked up here I think it's probably helpful to think about what the clutch is doing at a point in...

    Car inspections and gearboxes

Thanks guys Enzo - We're probably looking up to about 18/20k max for the right car, we could stretch further but partly we don't want to have too much invested in it in case the unthinkable happens to it. The GS Spyders seem pretty rare and the ones I've seen so far seem to be on for £25/30k...

    Car inspections and gearboxes

I was a bit confused by the lack of 43,500 mile service although was assured that some interim other mileage ones stamped at the front of the book substituted for it (not the expert myself!) A few more Spyders in the..sea?

Indeed - never mind, another one just hit the websites so hopefully will be able to see that soon - onward and upward! :)

    Car inspections and gearboxes

Seems a bit crazy that they think people will part with £15-20k for a car that they haven't tested - certainly the other place I looked at one were more than happy for me to try it out. I had this a few years ago when I bought my S2000 and found it a useful way to know who to avoid doing...

    Car inspections and gearboxes

Well that was a complete waste of time! The car looked fine, seemed a bit loud as he pulled it out but then he wouldn't let us test drive it "without an offer on the table"! Obviously we left immediately - staggering that he thinks he is going to sell any cars that way, implies a huge distrust...

    Car inspections and gearboxes

Yeah that's the guy Catman - not met him yet, off on Saturday I think so will see what the car is actually like then! Thanks everyone for your tips again, hopefully I'll find a suitable one before you guys get bored of me asking about ones I've found ;) Cheers

    Car inspections and gearboxes

Hi all - just to update you, I didn't buy the original Spyder I was looking at in the end although it appears to have sold now. I'm thinking of going to look at this one - is anyone familiar with it...

    Car inspections and gearboxes

Thanks everyone else. I'm tempted to put a lower ball offer in like you say and see what happens. It's definitely not at the top of the budget by a long way at the moment but I'm slightly concerned it may be a while before another decent colour one comes on to the market.... Appreciate the...
