It doesn't look like as if it's actually an x-pipe or just two pipes kinked together. Does it allow exhaust gases to move from one side to another?

Apologies I never would off thought there was a hole in the centre section ha ha.

Ha, I thought it was going to be that the ends of my pipes aren't reduced like the originals. Yeah its by no means a big hole. I've measured it at approx 3"x1", so not the size of the one on the original pipe. I just want the pops and crackles, and if I don't get that because the hole's too small, I'll probably just cut it right down the middle, grind it back and have a go at welding it back up.

Perfect do it yourself?

Remarkably, everything you see there is available on ebay, all I've done is cut some pipe. But as above, it may not sound how it should, or it may snap in half on the first drive, lol, who knows. So anyone can give this a go of course, but it might be worth seeing how it works out first. I'm waiting on some Mikalor clamps to replace the bolt clamps, but I should have it on by the weekend fingers crossed. I'll update as and when.

nice job, did the same on my 6r4, professional bespoke company wanted in excess of £1200 for both boxes, did the lot for £320 in stainless, all bends, pipes and boxes from ebay, you can get all sorts of different angle bends and tube size in ss or mild steel

I don't think the hole size will have any impact on your pops and crackles. Would love to see the ebay links as well

I beg to differ, the hole has everything to do with performance and sound. The flow of exhaust gasses forms a series of standing waves, if hole is too small the gases won't interfere with each other and therefore won't give the desired effect of an x-pipe.

I hesitate to disagree (cos you're probably right), but surely the pops and crackles themselves are caused by fuel combusting in the exhaust. This is normally muffled in the silenced x-pipe. No silencing, more pops / crackles.

Totally agree about the *flow* though, and purging and anything else.

Ahhh, yes, pops and crackles are due to petrol escaping into a hot exhaust. But it helps if the flow is disrupted and drags unburnt fuel into the exhaust.

There's mathematical equations on this I'm sure, all based on the bore of the pipe, length of the pipe before it hits the silencer or any other disruptor, speed of the gas flow yada yada yada...plus the modulation of the accelerator by the juvenile idiot in the drivers seat...

mijexhaust on ebay are the guys I got most of my parts from, they have a great selection of parts to make your own exhaust, if you're hands on and have a mig/tig welder
