First i must say im a little gutted , no thats a lie, im really gutted, not at the time wasting thats par for the course , as one does i'd stayed up to the very late hours reading up model against model variations, feel i already know them backwards, so was getting a bit excited before i left to go and view .

In the previous 24 hours the idea had really grown on me , infact the mind was working overtime and it was already sitting on the drive beside the other two, night before i had already made the list of people to ring as soon as i had parted with my cash First was Marios ,then numerous mails to Enricos, it was all rushing backwards and forwards and a good plan was formulating .

Warmed the GS up and stuck me bits and pieces in the car , sun was shining so i donned the shades as i set off down the A5 towards Leighton Buzzard, Boy did i feel cool mmm life was good i thought , turned on my favourite Birds album and was singing along with Mr Tambourine Man at 90 mph at the top of my voice, things dont get better, already anticipated the haggling session along with the mandatory persuasive cash waving end to a perfect day would be to get it for a song i was thinking

Eventually got through the Aylesbury traffic , and onto the small village of Ford , found the country lane turning , and proceeded to turn into the allotted farm, Very posh i thought , all sorts was now whizzing in and out of my brain ,ex rich whizz kids car or aristocratic heritage so now my adrenaline was really pumping , ME im the lucky one the original barn find
and so truly deserved , after all my years of Maserati worship and dedication i was being rewarded , a farm hand directed me to where they had already been told to direct me, made me feel important for a change .

As i drew nearer and nearer all the good feelings started to wayne untill i was presented with this

Wasn't a straight panel on the car , dry storage my ....se, rust had well and truly got hold of this beauty, not just externally but internally aswell , all the switch gear needed replacing, floor pans shot front screen had been bodged in rear screen shattered by the mushroom shed owner for non payment of rent along with a few axe marks in the body work, front valance bent beyond recognition It had been semi dismantled so one could never be sure what was missing engine was somewhere else but had been cleaned apparently but the heads were off and re painted with hammerite eek

After the tears were wiped away , i was just stunned how anybody could let such a beautiful rarity go to such waste and paint the bloody thing with DULUX beggars belief

Oh well the journey continues

It was not looking too bad till I saw the gaping hole in the passenger front footwell.

I have seen worse, but someone is trying to yank your chain, its worth £3k tops

The Alfa SZ 2600 was in slightly better condition to start a complete renovation , but unfortunately the Masser was too far gone , the amount of hard cash you would have to throw at it , to get it half sensible would far out way any market value ,thats without any labour costs or time spent parts searching , i think he's that strapped that £2-3 K and he would bite your hand off , probably worth breaking if you had the facilities and the time to clean and advertise the parts.

Loz if that had been a A6G or perhaps a Gibili Spyder Id say go for it if the chasis was straight, but like you say with the Indy you would be throwing literally thousands and thousands of pounds at it and by the end of the project you would be lucky to get your money back.........forget it..........that particular car belongs in that big garage in the sky.........may it rest in peace Amen

Oh well, he was careful not to show any of that on eBay! I'd rather a 3500GT anyway...:)

What a waste though...if the story's correct he's bought it and then just let it rot away...

Just for the record the Maserati Indy according to Italia is the least appealing of the 60's Maserati because of its ungainly looks. Vignale had to work around a four seater layout. The 335 bhp engine makes it fast but it is potentially expensive to keep going and does suffer from rust. Price range £12,000 - £25,000............it would have cost you more than that to get that thing even half respectable.

If the story is to be believed the car was only 8/9 years old when it went into storage in 1980 with a slight over heating problem find it hard to understand how it got it that state in storage

Dont get down Loz, plenty more out there...

This would be my first choice but a little £££
http://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/classic-car-page.php/carno/77167

Then there are these on the Maserati Club UK site
Maserati Mistral Project

I have a Maserati Mistral project I wish to sell. I believe it is one of only 7 right-hand drive 4-litre versions built. The car has been stripped and body/chassis restoration commenced, however the project has been dormant in dry storage for several years. The car is complete less engine and currently in Jersey.

If you have any interest, please contact Dave Manning for more details -
E-mail: davmann21@hotmail.com

Body from a 1964 Maserati Mistral

An ambitious project requires me to dispose of the entire body work and trim from my 1964 Maserati Mistral. For sale, wings, bonnet, glass, roof etc., all stripped to bare metal. The interior trim (excluding instruments, dash, wheel, etc.) and lights are also for sale. The car has been kept outside for a number of years so all parts come complete with spiders and 6 years of English weather.

Please contact Ceri Smith for more details - Tel: +44 (0)7711199696 (evenings only) - E-mail: ceri4@mac.com

1990 228 Biturbo
GB £2,000

54,500 miles, 12 months MOT. New belts at 54,000 miles.

£2,000 will save this 228 from being chopped into a pickup or having a full sized picnic tray fitted on to its boot, another good car going to waste, it's sitting in its own dry garage.

I'm getting too old for all this, the zimmer frame will soon be taking over as ‘transport’. Located in Oxfordshire.

Ask me nicely and you might get the two Biturbos as a job lot, at a reduced price!

For further details please contact me on 01793 782763.
Offers!

QP 4 SALE
Will swap for BMW
or Land Rover,
or anything.

I loved my Maserati Quattroporte and have happily driven it for the past 5 years. However, it broke down on the M40 last week and I am now totally "out of love" with it.

10 years old, left hand drive, UK registered and MOT'd, 75K Kilometres on clock.

Now at Euromotors in Sevenoaks and I am NOT going to pay to have the engine out, and then find a massive bill to get it fixed.

Does anyone want it?

Blue, white leather, usual toys.

It will probably cost £2K to fix and I am not that keen an enthusiast … someone must want it!

For further details please contact Colin on +44 7770316490 or 01732833202.

Cheers Peter, its not a basket case im after, at the very least i would want 97% of it to be there , unless it is an original 300s ,i wish , its hard enough finding parts for the modern maserati without the aggro of chasing limited numbers of the late classics , they are not so desirable , well in my eyes sorry you guys that have them , but beauty is in the eye of the beholder , with the Indy I wasn't actively looking for one rather one happened to be mentioned and on checking it was 10 miles down the rd, and the seller led me to believe different which is often the case with baskets cases , still nothing lost more of a learning curve

With any restoration the figures must make sense and with a car that is only worth £25,000, or maybe £30,000 at best and thats if it is in concours condition, the car has to have a sound foundation to begin with.

Nothing looked right about that car from the pictures and heaven knows what is wrong with it mechanically even if you get the bodywork and that miserable interior back to something decent. In my little mind that car looks like a bottomless pit.
