2002 Coupe CC stereo replacement

I’m looking to replace the stock infotainment / stereo with a new stereo that has CarPlay etc.

I’ve found a company in Byfleet who have done this before and have quoted me £1,690 to supply and fit a Pioneer SPH-EVO64DAB. This includes a custom made bezel and DAB aerial as well as adding a hazard light switch by the ashtray. They have also said for an extra £450 they can supply and fit a reverse parking camera. It will take two days to fit.

Does this seems reasonable or should I be looking elsewhere/ considering doing it myself?

Thanks Zep. I had a read of this but it didn’t have any comments on cost. I’ve reached out to one of the last members to comment who’s had the same done as I’m looking to have done to see if they will share costs to give me something to compare with.

There are some posts with costs. https://www.sportsmaserati.com/index.php?threads/4200-radio-satnav-upgrade.31574/post-792625

Sablewolf has helped a few with their projects, so if you want to DIY it the support is there or it can help you make a judgement on what you have been offered.

The £1600 sounds OK if the sound quality is vastly improved , if you just want your phone to play music through the car stereo there are much cheaper ways of doing it

Having done this DIY in my Spyder (see that thread) I’d say £2k all in is not a bargain but not a rip-off either. It all depends on the quality of the work. None of it is that difficult if you are handy. It is quite laborious though, the trim is fragile and getting a really good finish would take more expertise than I have, which is worth paying for.

You don’t mention the speakers. For £2k I’d expect those to be upgraded as the stock ones are terrible, and some decent sound insulation put in around them. This again isn’t that hard but the stock wiring is a bit weird so there will be some work involved.

Presumably they will also mount the mic for the Pioneer unit? Well worth it as it works really well for Siri/CarPlay as well as the phone.

Find out what they are going to do about the aerial. Beat option is to change it for one that does DAB as well as FM.

If I’d had the option to give someone £2k to completely sort mine I might well have done it, but only if they had done a really good job. I did also enjoy doing it myself and had some great help from forum members.

Sounds exciting, best of luck and let us know how you get on.

Thanks Gooner. The quote includes a replacement aerial I believe but no speaker changes. Purely aerial, headunit, bezel etc and extra for the reverse parking camera.

I’ve been looking at different headunits and suddenly thought if there are no buttons (purely touchscreen) and there are no steering wheel controls how do you adjust the volume when using CarPlay etc? Has anyone come across this and how do you adjust the volume?

My EVO62DAB has a thin panel of real buttons on the left edge, including volume + and - . They aren’t the best but fine when you get used to them. I don’t know about the 64 that you are looking at.

If you look on Youtube there is a bound to be a video of someone demonstrating an EVO64DAB. I found Youtube helpful when deciding on my model.

If you tap the screen on the DAB64 two volume lines appear at the bottom of the screen; one is for the phone volume the other is for the radio +/-. There is a DAB aerial attached to the windscreen and the normal one retained for FM use. As I have mentioned to you my NIT was useless so I had to change it, the price they have given you is very slightly more than I paid but I am sure that is because mine was the first Maserati they had done and after giving me a price they then found out they had to replace the hazard switch, re-connect the cigarette lighter, fit a USB connection in the arm rest, re-connect the lower switch lights and make sure the old NIT cover, under the armrest fitted properly. It looks good and works well. The speakers are not a problem to me, my car is a Spyder and with the top down, which is how I like to drive it I would rather hear the car than tunes. I couldn’t find anyone else to do the change - sorry one company said they might but wouldn’t give a complete price and that as it was a Maserati and they are not easy to work on (so they said) it was really only a start price at £1500. Good luck.

Unfortunately not yet. I picked up a decent Bluetooth fm transmitter as a temporary option (not ideal) as I was looking at all options. I even looked into Caritude - separate unit / display that would allow me to keep the original audio system by this doesn’t work connectivity wise.

am currently looking at doing the Kenwood fit out myself.

Okay thanks. I decided to upgrade mine with replacement speakers, a head unit, plus new amp. Also decided to go with the reversing camera solution. I should get the car back today and will post some pictures.

I never play music in my 4200, side window open with larini is the music.
It would have to be a daily driver for me to upgrade the infortainment.

Mine is a daily drive. I agree about the Larini tones, but for me, I wanted to upgrade to a fully Apple CarPlay integrated hands-free plus navigation solution. The music will compliment the tones from the Larini on those long drives to Italy!

Would love to see the pictures Omar - who did you use to carryout the work?

Mine is my daily drive so the sat nav and music (for when it's raining and the windows are shut) is the main reason for me.

Looks great, nice job on the bezel.

On that Pioneer, do you have the option to swap the controls to the right hand side of the screen? Mine is the earlier model with fixed buttons.

Also, I’d really like to see how you mounted the rear view camera. I haven’t done mine yet.

You can configure the screen's layout and icons in whatever you want. I played around with it earlier and will look again at the weekend.

I'll also take a picture of the reverse camera.
