2009 GTS fault codes

I have P2187 and P2189 codes, engine too lean at idle.

Any ideas why?

Otherwise, appears to drive normally.

I checked the fuel cap, it's seating correctly and clicks (but doesn't seem to be creating a vacuum when opening)?

My other thought was the MAF sensor.

Constructive feedback welcome.

Given it's both banks, I'd have to wonder if there's an air leak somewhere.

Why would you think it was the fuel filler? I know it throws an ECL but can's see how that would add unmetered air?

Always thought it was a potential cause of the engine running lean, having researched, and it was a recurrent Check Engine Light trigger on my Vantage.
I'm not speaking from any position of technical competence though, so more than happy to be corrected.

You can get a lean code from an unseated filler cap because the fuel tank is linked to the inlet (for emissions reasons) so it is in essence a vacuum leak.
You can spray easy start around some of the hoses/inlet with the engine bay with the engine running if there is a vacuum leak the revs should change.

The leak will have to be engine side of the MAF to have an effect.

I’m surprised there’s no vacuum in the tank so it may be an idea to have a look at the evaporative control system especially the vacuum pipe take off from the inlet.

Is it GeoffCapes old car? Has it just been serviced? If so I’d check for a hose not being reconnected following the service.

These Italian beasties do like to keep us on our toes don’t they, a well sorted and loved car, just serviced by reputable garage and up come the fault codes - sure it won’t be anything major

Aha, I think I've found the problem. A careful look around the engine bay revealed a detached hose!
I'm sure one of you will tell me what it does and whether it would cause a lean running fault code, but I'm hoping that's the case.
So I'll reset the code and see if that does the trick!

No idea what it does or where it goes but if it plugs into the inlet, engine side of the MAF, it could easily cause your problems

Reconnect it, clear the codes, fingers crossed

Ps it’s the unmetered air going into the engine after the MAF via the open hole that causes the problem not what the hose actually does

I take it you have plugged it back in again yes, it goes exactly where its laying, into the intake just below the horn things.

It just a part of the secondary air thing. Incidentally, the 4200 has a metal one that rusts and throws up a similar error.

Yes I did, although it could do with securing properly.
I'm booked in at Autoshield early in the new year, so Marios will sort that.

Now I've got my front tyres replaced, I'm going to get a full geo, pollen filter and a/c drain checked (I get slight misting on cold mornings) and get my engine bay cleaned (I'll then detail it).

Should be in top shape then, I can't think of anything else that needs sorting out.
