Well done, JonW. Recommended loss is more like 1lb a week, but don't look a gift horse etc etc. To lose 2lbs a week you need a 1000 cal deficit every day. That'll mean over 30% of a typical man's requirements.

1.5lbs in 2 weeks is therefore pretty good.

Progress continues to be slow... but it’s still progress!

1st October - 89.0kg @28% body fat
3rd October - 87.4kg @ 26.5% body fat
10th October - 86.2kg @ 26.0% body fat
17th October - 86.0kg @ 26.0% body fat
24th October - 85.5kg @ 25.8% body fat

The positive way of looking at this is that overall, this means that I’ve lost 3.5kg (7.7lbs) in just over 3 weeks , which is broadly in line with the recommended healthy weight loss rate. Also, according to my scales, this 3.5kg weight loss is mainly fat, as my lean mass has only reduced by 0.5kg (64kg —> 63.4kg)…

The less positive is that in the last two weeks I’ve only lost 0.7kg.... :sad3:
Well done JonW! That's brilliant - keep it up!

Day 54 off the booze! 6 more days until I reach my first target of 60 days, with the ultimate aim of 90 days (but anything over 60 is a bonus).

I've reclaimed a bit of the weight I'd put back on at the last check-in (I'm back down to 81.0kg from 81.4kg), and my BP is the lowest yet at 110/77 (down from 141/95 on day one). My BP medication has already been halved, and now I'm wondering whether it needs to be halved again!

If I feel I need a drink (which is becoming increasingly rare), I just picture in my mind the dozens of bottles of wine that I've now not drunk laid out in front of me - a "sobering thought" ...

outstanding work Froddy, and the blood pressure reduction is particularly impressive (and clearly way more important than weight!)

I wish I’d measured my BP at the start as well, but your post prompted me to measure mine just now, and it was 115/66 with a pulse rate of 55...

I’m definitely going to continue with no booze into November, although I will probably allow myself a couple of nights off as I’ve got a couple of things organised where I want to be able to have a drink...

Is paying for a personal trainer cheating or within the rules?

Been having PT sessions at a body building gym since August as I was not gaining weight but not losing either. Once a week for 30 mins per session with barely any breaks

I have managed to shift roughly 3 kilos from 81.7kg in mid August to 78.9kg currently and my strength has increased exponentially particularly my legs which were really weak initially now I'm squat pressing 80kg with ease

As a particularly arrogant man myself, I’d always shunned PTs. Until yesterday.

I’m already fairly fit, and COVID has made life far healthier without all the air travel, but I haven’t been able to run in many months due to what I called “a bad knee”. Have been swimming instead, and avoiding deep squat like exercises as they f’n hurt.

Being a proper man, I haven’t gone to a doctor . Yesterday, was at the gym and a friend was their to see a trainer. Talking about my knee, he turned to his trainer, who then sorted out my knee condition in under a minute, including all of the appropriate Latin names, gave me some stretches and instruments of pain to fix it up in a matter of weeks.

Short story long: a highly trained PT can make your life far more bearable. My vote is absolutely allowed and encouraged.

If I may make a plug for an app that truly helps. MyFitnessPal. Being a bit OCD, having all of the facts and figures in one place is a zen feeling. This app scratches that itch. Down about 8-10 pounds since January so far.

@todd.the.submariner you hit the nail on the head mate, someone who is fully trained that has that understanding can really help turn things around

Finding a good one is critical similarly I found my PT through a reccomendation but I am not subscribed to the gym I only pay for PT sessions which gets my access for the duration which works fine for me as I have a small home gym which I am now using more

One month of increased exercise, and no alcohol, and the overall result is

1st October - 89.0kg @28% body fat
31st October - 85.2kg @ 25.2% body fat

This means I’ve lost 3.8kg (8.4lbs) since the beginning of October, which I‘m happy with. If we then go into full data geek mode, and dig beneath the headline numbers, my scales show that:

Body Fat 24.9kg ——> 21.5kg
Visceral Fat (whatever this means!) 13.0 ——> 11.5
Lean mass 64.1kg ——> 63.7kg
Muscle quality 60mq ——> 63mq
Body water 50.2% ——> 51.5%
Metabolic age 64 ——> 54

Finally, although I didn’t take my blood pressure at the start of the month, today it is 115/63 and a pulse rate of 53.

Given that it looks like we may be heading back into a tighter lockdown due to this COVID nonsense, I’m planning for November to be another month of no (very little!) booze and plenty of exercise, and then I may relax during December before doing Dry January.

Really, really amazing results - you must be delighted!

Your results speak for themselves - a leaner, more hydrated, younger you!

I’ve just passed my 60 day alcohol-free target (it’s day 61). My starting weight was 83.3kg; today it’s 80.0kg.

My second alcohol-free target is 90 days, and I’d really like to get my weight below 80kg, so I think I’ll keep going ...

Keep up the good work, chaps!

I have just gone back to the post I made on 1st January, and I’ve finally reached the target I set for 1st April of being 10kg lighter than I was on 1st Jan. Better late than never I suppose……

I’ve also just remeasured my self:

Waist: 39 inches (99cm) ———> 36 inches
Belly (stuck out): 45.5 inches (116cm) ———> 41 inches
Chest: 43 inches (109 cm) ———> 44 inches
Neck: 18 inches (45cm) ———> 16.5 inches

I know I still look like a middle aged, overweight man - but I’m less of one than I was! Time to celebrate with 65 mile bike ride on Zwift…
