3200 Hidden VIN

Hi Folk, probably a daft question, but I'm trying to find the VIN stamped on the chassis.
I've found the wee flap under the mat and it indeed has some of the numbers, but the rest are covered up under the sound insulation which is stuck down hard.
In fact, the flap only uncovers the first section of the VIN and seems to be a deliberate design (flaw!)
Will I need to chisel the sound insulation off, which looks like a real pig of a job?
The reason for this, is that it seems my car was registered from day one with the wrong VIN and is in fact missing a zero. Easy mistake but annoying as its been flagged up on HPI.
I know the car is fine as I have plenty of other evidence of the correct VIN from dealer invoices etc.
The correct VIN is on the plate under the bonnet but I suspect this will not be sufficient for DVLA.
Thanks
G

Find a friendly traffic cop...

Or talk to Soprano Stu or David Askew who will have broken enough of them to know where the others are hidden. I'm guessing it is too old for the one behind the corner of the windscreen?

I think so. I've had a look but couldn't see anything. Mines a 2002. Ta.

It will be somewhere also, but not advertised. All older Maseratis had it either on the frame, on the engine frame, or sometimes a headlight aperture. Sorry I don't know about the 3200 though.

Under carpet and on cylinder block
Thanks for this. As I said, I've pulled the carpet up and checked out the VIN but not all of it is visible, just the first 8 digits. The rest of the number is under the sound insulation mat which will require heating up and chipped off. Just wondered if this is normal and worth the effort. Thanks for your replies.

I had a similar problem on a Ducati 996, vin was wrong from day 1. I just filled the change box in on the V5, sent it off and it came back with the new number. No one checked anything.
