Hi all,

Noticed the other day that a couple of the small LED bulbs in the rear high level brake light have gone, leaving an annoying/uneven brake light which needless to say, is bothering me when I see reflections in the rear view mirror whilst in traffic.

Done a bit of a search and see that access appears to be gained via the removal of the rear seats? Couldnt find anything specific about the light/bulbs themselves? Any one had this issue and able to make a suggestion? Are the bulbs replaceable or are they sealed units like the boomerangs? Dont want to have to shell out massive amounts to replace the whole unit!

Any thoughts/suggestions welcome, many thanks.

Hi Ben,
As far as I know they are bulbs in the high level unit and you do have to remove the rear seat backs to get to the lamp unit itself, if you are getting in there to do them, I would suggest getting the LED replacement lamp units, they should last the life of the car, albeit slightly more expensive..!!
Cheers

Many thanks gents! Think I will have a look over the weekend and see if it looks like something an amateur can do! Just heading over to Arkhangelsk in the Arctic Circle of Russia to conclude some business- my first visit there and from what I've heard, it's not the most savoury of places.... I'll just be pleased to get back; period.

If I deem the light bulb change manageable on my return, I'll be sure to post some pictures & a how to. Otherwise, I'll put it on the list of things for Marios to get stuck in to during its winter service.

Also high on my list!! I'm hopeful- cameras in the hand luggage, just in case the opportunity arises!! Sadly as we're flying through the night and losing 4 hrs with the time difference, I've got a horrible feeling there'll be no sleep until tomorrow night, so any non work activities will likely be swapped for the hotel bed! Will share the photos if successful :)

It's simple enough;

Rear seats out; base first pull up from the front with a big tug! They'll pop up. Next the upright. You'll need to remove the seat belt clips as this holds the base in. Very large tight bolts.

Next the parcel shelf comes out; lots of smaller a nuts and bolts both from in the cabin and in the boot itself, 7 or 8 if I remember. The shelf should lift out then. Just make sure you I clip all the cables first.

I have to admit, they are very pretty to look at, almost mesmerising. I used to see them a lot coming back from Vancouver/Calgary. Not so much these days. IIRC, Archangel was a destination for the Arctic convoys. Seemingly a frigid, desolate place at the best of times, even worse in winter. Enjoy!
