3200 Oil Pressure Sender

Hi Arvid
I was wondering whether your replacement Lada oil pressure sender worked? I wasn't sure whether this was for a 3200 GT though? Thanks.

Peter

Just so people don't get confused, the earlier mentioned senders should all be M14x1.5. I personally bought a unit for Lada 2103-3810300-01 for £10,this again corresponds directly to a Fiat 132 sender, 0-8bar, M14x1.5

Hi Peter,

Sorry for the late reply - I've been off the forums for a while.

The Fiat/Lada sender would work just fine but I suspect it will be a tight fit - maybe too tight. The original sender is a narrow one and the Fiat unit is larger - might be difficult to fit in that tight space. My original sender suddenly decided to work correctly and has done so since. Go figure :)

Hi Arvid

That's OK, mine seems to be working again as well so I'm not touching it until I have to!

Cheers

Now I finally have an answer to this question. The larger replacement sender do not fit - it is simply no room for a bigger sender than the original. The original is 37mm and the Lada/Fiat is 55mm.

Today I decided to tackle the once again fluctuating oil pressure readings. It has worked fine until recently but not any longer. I removed the sender but I didn't have a new same size sender at hand so the old had to be opened and checked. By using the pictures Allan provided earlier I've marked the problem areas. The nr.1 is the contact base for the pin and lead on top of sender - a weak patent... The base is somewhat compressed and could possibly make sporadic readings as it might loose contact with lead pin. The lead pin can be seen inside the cut plastic top. The nr.2 is also a weak point as the grip has loosened. This clamp grip holds the resistorplate and is also a part of the spring for the lead pin. I compressed this clamp for better grip together with bending the contact base for the lead pin upwards - all to create better contact for better readings.

I cleaned the resistorplate and also contact points for the lead with alcohol and put it all together. Tested it with compressed air for checking the ohm reading - all ok - and back on the car.

A 30 minutes testdrive went fine and I had no sporadic readings on the way home. This might have done the trick but only time will show. There are certainly other senders that fit but they have to be under 40mm in diameter as its surroundings are really tight.

Hi Arvid

Thanks for that. I did manage to clean the contacts insitu and, touch wood, I haven't had any problems since so it might be that over time the contacts just get oxidised and cleaning them up can help. But you're right, its a tight space and I made the mistake of, when changing the cambelt, forgetting to take it out and having a proper look at it. Anyway, so far, is been OK.

Hi Arvid?
Great information, thanks.
Several questions:
1. Did you had to disconnect some hoses to get access to the oil sensor? Did you reach it from top or from the bottom? Any problems with removal? Did you use an ordinary spanner or had to modify i somehow?
2. What did you use to put the sensor cover back together?
3. Was there a big oil leak after you removed the sensor? Do I need to plug the hole with a bolt or something for the time when the sensor is out?

Hi Andy,

I had to remove the water cooling pipes and hoses + intercooler hoses,no chance otherwise. I could reach it from top with a crows foot spanner but it would work with a shortened spanner also. It was cut gently open with a hacksaw and after superglued here and there to hold it firmly together - then an oil resistant silicone all around. No oil leakage - just a few drops - so no plugging needed.

It's been a while since the fix and it still works perfect. No oil light warning and no drop in pressure while driving :)

Thanks Arvid
Doesn't sound too bad. Do you remember by any chance what size of crows foot spanner did you use?

I think it was 19mm. It's a little bit of pre-work to get to it and a bit fiddly to get the tool on it. You got to see with your fingers or have a mirror at hand.

Go for it :)

Thanks Sospanbach. Just got reply from the dealer in Warsaw and they state it's out of stock again. I will go for the Arvid's method for now.
