My 4200 s armrest cd unit rattles and clatters everytime you turn the car on . I dont use the sat nav. Can i dissconnect the power from it or will it stop the display screen working ?

And the next question is whick cable is it ? There is a red one on its own or some multi plugs ???

David Howson did a good photo supported post of whats in the NIT unit. I suspect from this you could disconnect the power sent to the CD head whilst still keeping everything else live.

However you may want to stip it down and find/fix the fault as I suspect somthing has been dropped in there or bent.

I can't find his thread, but pretty sure they only thing you could do would be to open it up and disconnect the mechanism. Or replace the mechanism which will be a standard computer drive unit. Should be available easily enough and probably a pretty simple swap. I suspect some of the drive gears have stripped. They are getting on a bit now.

Power is only delivered to the NIT via the standard DIN plug from memory

I'm not seeing photos on there however

I have an 02' spyder. I've tried to removed the front CD console cover on the armrest to removed the "sticky" residue. However, I can't seem to take-off the front plate. I had removed the two screws under the armrest lid, but the black front cd cover won't budge.

any suggestions?

Not 100% but I believe the NIT needs liberating from the armrest to get the front trim off.
There are a couple screws hidden under the carpet on the front (both) sides of the interior centre tunnel...which arent described in the "how to" and you need to get the tunnel free to free the NIT !
You gotta luv 'em !

Honestly, is it worth having a Maserati? I just bought the 02' Spyder with 40k miles and trying to do some minor facelift/upgrade.

There'll be sterner tests ahead than this simple task.
To answer your question though, if in doubt, look under the bonnet :)
