4200 coupe boot release glovebox button not working

Hi all. My boot release button in the glovebox has stopped working on my 2002 Maserati 4200 coupe. The petrol flap release button next to it still works though. The key fob button boot release and opening manually via the key both still work so it’s not the mechanism/ lock. I’m guessing a fuse but not sure, any ideas or similar experiences?

Can't see there's a separate fuse for the button. I imagine it's just stopped working (the button that is)

There are two possibilities in my eyes. 1. The button has stopped working and 2. The wire from the button to the boot is broken so it looks like it’s not working.

The glovebox button is easy to check. You can unclip it and check for continuity between the 4 pins after removing the plug. Check for heat damage, if the bulb switch gets stuck on the lamp stays on for a long time and can melt the plastic.

If the switch seems ok, check the wires from the body to the bootlid. These can break over time due to the opening and closing. Getting the boot open with the key can be a pain if the lock barrel is sticky. Try pressing down on the boot lid while turning the key (you might need an assistant) if it is an issue.

According to my mechanic/specialist it happens quite often that -like Zep says- the wiring to the boot is broken due to ageing. Try opening the boot manually and wiggle gently the wiring from car to bootlid (you will find it with boot open, it is inside in a rubber cover). If the button now works, you will know what's causing it. Good luck

Had one in last week, same issue

if the boot opens on the key button but not the glovebox button there is a relay in the boot above the battery that is faulty, swap it out, voila.

Get someone to press the glovebox button and put your finger on the relays to save time looking it up.

There is a relay in the trunk next to the battery that prevents opening while the engine is running. If it is stuck, it won’t open. Try bridging the contacts with a clip to try if it works.
