New listing. Not sure if it has been discussed.

Looks nice from the photos the colour combo suits the coupe, there seems to be what looks like a bit of wear to the drivers seat where the seatbelt seems to have rubbed but otherwise tidy and clean

Worth all the normal checks but history doesn't look too bad with well known specialists

Seat squab wear is not unusual for mileage; easily treated via clean and dye job.

Hi, I'm looking for my first Coupe and interested in this one. Crazy prices so not sure what to offer that's fair to both of us. Any thoughts?
Thanks
Roy

Well he is looking for 14k so you really need to see it and see what it needs. Service history is a bit hit and miss as it is supposed to be 12 months I believe. In theory that could affect resale price. Then allow for the costs when negotiating.

I know I'm on my third Boxster and love it. They are a bit too good though if that's possible so just fancy a change and a bit more soul.

Eeek is that a note of caution Geoff Capes? You read so many scare stories about costs. Having said that my first Boxster had the IMS failure at 15k fortunately under warranty.

Thought that was an urban myth you will be worrying about variators next ;)

If I knew then, what I know now...!>>! lol
The best practice approach is to sort a PPI.
If you look at buying in auction, and with recent Covid restrictions, it is made more difficult. But a first hand viewing is advisable. A professional inspection very desirable, if possible.
When you've lived with it for a bit, you'll be better placed to buy one...but thats how it goes I guess !
A good P.P.I. will probably cost you >£300 and wont get everything. If you do buy the car, you're a step ahead of the game in a sense however, and the value becomes more obvious...
Yes, they can bite you on the ar5e. Once bought, you wont shift it that quickly or easily. Everything from sh1tbox Fords to decrepit barn finds are fetching a premium ATM. The exception to that rule seems to be the 4200. A decent example is seriously undervalued though..
Dont get it wrong. No pressure..!>!>! :as002:

Don't be too drawn in by the "1 of 214 example of a Maserati 4200GT where only 214 cars were built in right hand drive manual format!" the numbers are wrong, it's rare, but not quite that rare.

I think that's based on the howmanyleft website numbers perhaps, but the problem is, they don't always seem to have been identified correctly when registered.

Mine for example is a Coupe GT on the reg doc, but when I do insurance quotes / the 1 time I called for recovery, the database both insurance and recovery firms used list my car as a spyder!

Numbers wise, even Maserati don't get it right, if you look here:
1 person contacted Maserati and was told
"The majority of RHD GT Coupes made were imported into the UK (877 of the 1078 manufactured)."

Someone else was told:
"Maserati produced 1078 4200 manual GT Coupes (3 pedal kind) M138 for world wide markets. 214 cars were produced for UK RHD market. They also went on to confirm that 89 Coupe GT's /Spyders were face-lift models but didn't specify the breakdown of CC's/3pedal within the 89 face-lift cars."

But we now have either 1078 Coupe GTs total, or 1078 RHD total - I think it's 1078 RHD Coupe GTs.

Anecdotal perhaps, but in my ownership, too many other cars have been seen / for sale for the total to be close to 200.
I remember shortly after I bought mine turning up at an Italian car show (not a massive show, and I'm up in Scotland) and there was something like 8 4200s there. 1 was a GranSport, 1 a CC and 6 manuals. My manual was sitting at home and I'd viewed another (8th) car a couple of weeks before.

Good luck with your hunt :)
