Wow... and this was not seen at MOT?...
Exactly. Moreover, aside from the assessor failing to notice this during the warrant, who was the technician working on this who failed to torque them up correctly? That's shockingly incompetent. I hope the cost and inconvenience to you is minimal, and you're back on the road asap.

When I worked at Auckland Maserati everything was done using torque wrenches calibrated regularly by Snap On.
Back then we were regularly doing variator repairs so a clutch change was a nice easy job.
I think this mishap was down to Graeme.

Glad you've found the problem. It does suggest that your LSD needs a service though, as it sounds like it's behaving like an open diff.

I think the 4200 only has a 40% lock in a power on direction and surprisingly more when decelerating, presumably to keep rear straight under lift off but I would expect there to have been some drive to the good axle if the LSD was working.

Cheers,

Simon

Yes, I caused the problem, as I had them apart last.

I did torque the bolts on replacement, but I don't remember 80Nm as being the figure which I've just looked up, so the incompetence is mine. Mind you, none of it would have been necessary if the gearbox pipes had been hung correctly, by the then dealer, following the clutch replacement/gearbox service.

I've ordered new bolts and straps. Fingers crossed that all will be well. Thanks everyone.

This happened to me on the starting grid at Goodwood some 11 years ago I think without the clumpety clunk , quite embarrassing , all revved up and no where to go , turns out it was the F1 pump

Ha, and then you sold it to me...... :)

Bolts and plates arrived this morning - thanks Eurospares. The Maserati part wasn't in stock, but the later 223916 Ferrari part was and only 76p a bolt. Once again a Ferrari part was cheaper.

Only 22.50 GBP all up, including shipping by Royal Mail and it only took a week to get here! An unbelievably cheap repair compared to my other experiences.

I installed them this afternoon and made sure they were torqued to 80Nm. The car is running fine again.

Thanks everyone

Great news, i'll re-torque mine next time i'm in there as had them off for rear subframe work as few years ago.

Got to love a cheap fix, thought the clutch had failed on mine, but turned out to be just the brake switch, went for the cheaper ferrari part aswell
