Screen price, Apr and GFV can be haggled.
Buyer is in driving seat in this climate

Spot on Iain - don't ask, don't get.

Also, the 812s are averaging £330k new after they have had options added. F12's have settled around £230 second hand. 550/575's are hitting £130-150k. Seems to me the 599 has a little way to go. It may be bumping along the bottom, but it really is usable and for me just as a sweet point in terms of price/performance. Never been into mid-engine cars (Alfa 33 Stradale excepted) and the 458/488 do not appeal at all. Always loved a big GT and as a kid hankered after a Khamsin. The 599 meets my needs pretty much head on.

For those planning to go to DL after this week please note they have a Zaffiro VIP event from 2-4 Nov for the Maserati range.

I was explaining Damo's deal to the missus earlier,

I'm fairly certain its the first time she has told me to "go away politely" in 27 years !!!

Much love for the 599 and I think it's a more sensible level for a high end car purchase given the current state of the market. It wasn't long ago that these cars where far less valuable and there is no doubt that the market has peaked and is correcting in some areas. I'd be scared to buy a Cali, 458 or FF right now as they could drop as the supply is fairly high against current demand. The finance houses are offering future values that are too high now again as well which is precisely what fuelled the price crash at the credit crunch as they couldn't recover the money so people just handed them back in droves once their contracts allowed. The safest way is to ensure that you're buying something that was built in low enough numbers to satisfy demand even when the market is not so buoyant. Damo's way of looking at it is clever and using the 599 for that model is smart too (**** licking over) but I wouldn't try that with an early Cali for example. I wouldn't do it with any Maserati today either although if you must, the Stradale is the only one that has low enough volume vs desirability.

So, bravo on the purchase Damo but to the others, only fools rush in.

I think a low mileage 458 is as safe as houses For GFV. Look at good F430 prices- and the cars are poles apart. If you use damos logic (makes total sense) re: prices of 575s and F12s and the impact on 599 residuals. 44,000 miles calis are selling for 80+ .there is an argument to say if the economy falls then calis will be more desirable as they are more main stream, usable and expected to take high mileage - and only the unused 'toys' will crash.
Disclaimer: I am unbiased now as I am between cars!
Phil will be pleased to know the evoke is soon to go too!

You can argue all you want but history shows exactly what happens to the high end car market if it collapses. I don't think it will however when you see "normal" cars such as the Ferraris mentioned or regular 911s (996 turbo, 997 turbo etc) at very high prices given the number registered, you have to be very careful what you buy in to. When a market is increasing, it's easy to not make a mistake. That's not the case if it's in decline.

For the record, I prefer the F430 to the 458 and I'd choose that way if given the choice. The older, analogue car appeals to me far more and I've driven both. I'm probably not in the majority but there you go!

I also don't think a 50% GFV on a Ferrari is at risk but a 70% one could be. It's more cars like the BMW M4 or Merc c63s AMG that would be hit if their GFV is too high as there really are too many built and they have been enticing people to buy with silly finance deals for a few years now. You can buy an E46 M3 for £7k. You will be able to buy an M4 for £7k eventually too.

FFS seem to start off at 50% and go to 60% if you push them. If you have to go to above 60 you can't afford the car so I agree risky.
There is no doubt at this time of year and in this economy the market is slow. Some of the stock in some main dealers is scary- and not moved for months. they seem to do whatever you want on the finance side on the right car.
I agree about the mass produced German high end. I don't understand how it can continue how it's going.
FWIW - I agree the F430 looks the business and would love market to crash so I could afford a RHD Scud

Went to see the 599 today. A very nice car almost flawless apart from a few small stone chips. - 2 yr F warranty package, FSH, F full inspection, new clutch and brakes. On finance they will over 60%. I'm pretty relaxed about the risk of residuals falling that far. Only in a global shock like 2008 AND an interest rate spike do I think we will see cars which have already depreciated dropping by that amount.
They also had another black MCV in service - one with tan interior.
Oh they have a baby blue Alfa 8c spider for sale - love it or hate it. (I hated it).
Will decide tomorrow whether I go ahead..

Nora Iain,
Missed the bit about the Cali 30 going, and the Evoque, think you change cars quicker than I do pants!
What's next, 458?

I hope you change pants more often than once every 4 months Dave!
Its AM or F. Both have big pros and cons..

Iain - what made you decide to sell the Cali? I thought you loved that car and had only just started modding it...

I blame the Illness.
I did love it, like I loved the GTS. I am getting the GTO grill back if anyone is thinking of a Cali...it was an awesome mod.
I have a 3 other imminent itches, and its been a good 4 months since I bought the Cali work wise.
I will keep the next one longer I think. Going for one dream car and one very sensible run about.
Ideas for the run about welcomed. I want a 2017 something. Doesn't have to be flashy. Would a smart car be mad?

We have a 2016 Smart fourtwo 0.9 for nipping around Manchester. Great little car and has quite a cool feeling about it. But you have to get the 0.9 or Brabus if you want it to be nippy

It's in Swindon at Dick Lovett. HGTE pack would be nice but it's another £40k.

I contemplated the HGTE pack and worked on the basis a 14k fitted upgrade now worth 40k was a stretch too far. Engine performance the same, changes to damper rates, springs and anti-roll bars etc.

I really liked the GTB compromise of handling and ride - extraordinary for a super GT.

Various views on the HGTE ride quality, but most seem in favour of the upgrade. I also know the pre 2009 cars can have it retrofitted. I won't bother.
Chose mine on condition and history. Previous owner was fastidious.

Also, check the car is serviced before you buy - ask the dealer when it is due. Handy saving of £1k and will certainly not hurt them to get the car into your ownership.

Thanks I agree. I don't think a retrofit is worth it as the premium reflects more the fact it left the factory as a HGTE. The car has just been serviced. 9 stamps all from authorised dealers. Only issue is that the Becker radio has been replaced. Anything else I should ask about before making a decision ?

I might have a Ferrari badged Becker Cascade available in the new year, though it depends on what I decide to do with my 360. I bought it on eBay to replace the aftermarket unit in the 360 but haven't got around to fitting it. It is worth keeping an eye on eBay as they do come up from time to time there.
