Hi
Eventually managed to pin Mrs Scaf down to a holiday destination, she is type of my woman I know who would turn down a holiday in Barbados and opt for Malta - but who am I to argue.

Anyway are we better off staying in Valletta or Sliema ?

Any advice most welcome, looking at either the Palace Hotel or The Phoenicia

Any advice most welcome

I'll wave. I have a house in southern Sicily lol. Be ready to trail round hundreds of churches .

We stayed at the Xara Palace in Mdina and can recommend that. Ancient city with a few restaurants and bars but easy to grab a taxi to Valletta for more. Oliver Reed's final destination pub a disappointment though!

I have never been to Malta, but I have some friends who go a lot. They say they hate the noise and fuss of Valletta and Sliema and always stay on Gozo for peaceful time. (YMMV) They like a boutique hotel called 'Number 37' I think.

I’ve been lucky enough to go to Gozo every other year for the past 20. Dusty and quiet. Getting a bit busier these days but still great if you want to get away from it all. Boat out to the Blue Lagoon at Comino is good. San Blas beach also. Valletta is beautiful but obviously more hectic. Not sure about hotels but they do like fireworks!

The island is so small, you can go anywhere and have a good time, taxis are cheap and friendly. Valletta is ok but only to visit. Grand Harbour is a must. I stayed at a nice hotel in Bugibba, very touristy. A few years later up at Mehillia Bay, which in winter is quite quiet but it's still warm.
There's a good car museum in Bugibba. Afew Maseratis iirc.
