Thinking of picking up a little spider for summer open top and mainly for the missus as a runaround locally. It will be a twinspark not busso.

Should I or is it going to be a world of pain? Loved the little 145 Cloverleaf we had so want something as small and nimble that is easy to work on.

Anything to really look for except the rust, electrical, bushes, roof leaks?

Sticky dash on the early cars although I think they’ve got the best interior.

Bolster wear on them all.

Boot is tiny.

Get a phase 2 TS not a phase 1 or phase 3 JTS.

very reliable, scuttle shake, cam belt, cam belt, cam belt and watch the oil level like a hawk and listen for shell bearings

I’m actually thinking the opposite. I want a Phase 1 TS spider. Looked at a couple and they were rot boxes.

I think they will be classics and sought after very soon.

I've had 4. 3 Bussos and a phase 3. Loved them all. All have scuttle shake, broken door cards where the belt buckle gets trapped, worn suspension bits n bobs etc. Phase 3 had massive camshaft wear, no issues with Bussos. Good fun cars .

Looking at the sills. Especially for people jacking not on the reinforced points and crushing them.

Aircon, if it’s fitted, is worth checking. It’s a pain to get fixed.

Check the fastener on the luggage bin. If it’s cracked you can’t replace it so are looking at a replacement luggage bin lid.

JTS? It’s basically a TS but with euro 4 or something emissions on it. They changed the fuelling to get decent mpg and in the process removed the TS power band at 4k rpm killing it’s character in the process.

Yes, the TS empties a tank at an alarming rate but it’s fun.

Phase 1’s are the same TS but the interior for me in the P2 is night and day better.

P1 immobiliser is an old system and a nightmare when it starts playing up.

My first Alfa was a TS GTV new, never had any issues in the 3 years I owned it.

Had 2 further 3.2 P3’s, one from new and also a P3 3.2 Spider.

great cars

would have to be the spider for me as reduced visibility in GTV is like being in a suit of armour / locked inside a postbox.
I much prefer the look of the GTV so not pulled the trigger yet. Would have taken the busso that sold recently for £618 - with current MOT!!

Yes, yes yes. Saw our first GTV in Hammersmith on Milano plates with two Italians peering through the screen. Then after Mrs looking at a 156 we went for the Busso Lusso after a test drive through tunnels. Had it for 12 years with trips all over EU - we used to be asked to show the engine in FR station services. The only real issue was oil cooler pipe rot - fortunately just before Mrs got home. Alfa no longer stocked parts but local hydraulics people made some up.
Then bought a TS spider on a whim for peanuts. Lost some gears after a while - supposed swarf in selectors turned out to be a detent pin loose in the box. Changed box and clutch and bizarrely it went North to where our Maserati Spyder spent most of its life.

No offence but; half of the enjoyment of a spyder is the noise it makes. Choosing a 4 banger over a six pot is, quite frankly, f*cking madness. For example, why would anyone with testicles choose a 2lt (4 pot) F Type over a V8R? The same thing applies. Get a Busso and retain what little credibility you might have left. Bollocxs to the expense, you only live once (unless you are a religious freak of course).

That depends on what you want it for probably. If I wanted an F Type but was using it to do 80 miles a day commute then the 4 pot probably would be the one for the running costs but if you wanted it as you for weekend blasts then the V8 is the one. The 4 pot was probably made to add sales for people who wanted it as a daily drive and to put more miles on.

I get it, but as the missus has little concept of motors or driving faster than speed limits itself overkill and the money saved allows me to blow it on **** I don't need except F types as they are a bit hairdresser.
I will see you in he.ll with all the other v8 dinosaur burners. No wish to be reborn into SUV EV world thanks.

Wow! Firstly, bin the missus as she sounds as wet as you are. Secondly, since when is an F Type a hairdressers car? No offence but, the fact you are thinking of buying a 4 pot Alfa says enough about you to render your opinion fairly fcking useless. Also, the fact you see V8 owners as dinosaurs, on a Maserati forum, marks you out as an oblivious, unthinking cnt.

The 2.0TS Spider is the nicer car.
