I still don't get how a new sports car will come out in less than 12 months time... yet no word or picture of a mule/rendition.

I just hope its not just a re-bodied FCA group car!!

As of last month all electric vehicles in EU have to make a (non-specified) speed related noise up to 50kph so I'm sure they will just pipe out a big old V8 rumble...

At least they a re making a stunning replacement for the GT as if not we would be stuck with another boring box of an SUV by the sound of things. Bring on the new sports car I say.

One Maserati insider told us: “Alfieri might be dead, but what’s coming instead will blow everyone away – it’s even more beautiful”.

As teasers go the Alfieri was superb, but you pi$$ people off and damage your brand when you take their deposits and don't deliver.

To achieve a relatively short gestation for a new car you need to either throw money at it, raid existing parts bins, collaborate with other manufacturers, or any combination thereof, unless of course the Alfieri died some time ago and they've been quietly working on the replacement in the meantime.

Whatever appears will be out of my league, but it would be so nice to see a new Maserati halo car that gets peoples' attention for all the right reasons.

Here's hoping...…..

No point in Maserati trying to beat the Macan, that's the Stelvio's job and it is doing very well. The Levante looks lovely, but it is a barge compared to the Alfa. I have bought a Stelvio, still have my GranTurismo, tried the Stelvio back to back with the Levante and the Maserati just doesn't handle as well. To be fair though the interior is nicer. I guess they may re-body a Stelvio and pass it off as a Maserati.

I believe that is the plan... Similarly Alfa will have a rebadged Levante as a larger SUV offer to the Stelvio and a new GTV coupe

So Maserati will be using the Giorgio platform for their next few cars and very likely to include a coupe in that line up

It is likely to be a small coupe 3200/4200/GS sized... 2 seater or 2+2 doubt the rear seats/headroom will be as big as the old car

They have confirmed a refreshed Ghibli to be presented at Geneva

They have hinted at a larger GranTurismo replacement - perhaps called Granturismo which will be a full 4 seater - will it be based on the Giorgio platform though?

I genuinely think these cars are coming, but will they be any good? They will not be as great as the previous era in the sense that it is the end of the Ferrari engineered era when the GT dies. The QP, Lavente and Ghibli are not made in the same way as the GT or even 4200 was - the brand has also changed from performance orientated luxury and is leaning more into its lifestyle brand aspect. The big hold up will be electrification, they must be struggling with getting all of the tech together and developed, FCA started much later than JLR who in turn started later than BMW and Mercedes on purchasing and developing their EV tech which is very apparent in the entire groups offer.

I have to say, that my Stelvio Milano has very sharp handling and a great little 2-litre petrol turbo, a smart red interior and Trofeo white exterior, all at a great price. I'm not sure I'd pay the extra for the Maserati badge - i.e. £65k for a Stelvio QF or £110k for a V8 Levante. Like you, it is a shame that the Ferrari engineering won't appear again, that's why I'm keeping my GT. Although you feel the Ferrari know how is in the Guilia and Stelvio - just try the steering, it is epic.

I test drove both the Stelvio and Levante. The Stelvio is much more throwable, its almost a tonne lighter though so should be. In the end there was something missing for me in the Stelvio so I passed. I bought a Levante S a couple of months ago and am still loving it. The V8 is costly, but similar price to a V8 powered GT, and other top end luxury SUVs. If Maserati can get sales at that price more power to them.

Not sure about the "Ferrari steering" in the Stelvio/Giulia. The positive nature of the steering has been a characteristic of all Alfas I've owned.

Shame about the Alfieri being cancelled, but as long as they have something next year I don't think the name matters. I hope they aren't just rebadged Alfas though. The one thing that distinguishes the Italian brands is that they are just scaled up/down versions of a single car with slightly different trim. Its the thing that keeps them interesting.
