My order is in and confirmed by Meridien today V6/hybrid in dark grey with black and grey interior or maybe black & tan. They say 2 years plus for first delivery but the demand will be huge especially if the 0-60 is well under 3 secs as suggested. No price yet.

Out of interest, what size deposit are they taking?

So I tried to disappear but surprise surprise, I now feel the pull and am thinking of returning to Maserati! Got rid of the GTS last year and got a boring A8. Spoke to my sales chap and it sounds like late 2020 for first UK deliveries, no prices yet (anything from 80 to 180 is what I was told) and 5k deposit to get in line now @JonW. Investor slides indeed showed hybrid, plug in hybrid and full electric with 2 second ish 0-62 time. The Audi is likely to get kicked out I reckon...

Mention of deposits on cars yet to be built reminds me of when Jag took 50k deposits on their 500k XJ220. (First road car to promise 220mph). They had quite a few speculators take them up on the offer - thinking they could sell on the deposit for a profit when delivery time approached.
Unfortunately for them, the 90s recession meant the market for expensive cars crashed. Also unfortunately for them, they didn't read the small print of the deposit contract. It basically contracted the buyer to pay the balance of the £450k.
I think a load of buyers got together with Jag to 'do a deal' to buy themselves out of the contract where they paid even more money out but got nothing!
Lesson - read the small print!!

That, and the fact that they thought they were getting a V12 which didn't materialise.

Is that 80k to 180k....that's a big difference. Surely they must have a better idea if they are asking deposits. I take it if you have 100k to spend and its 180k you get your deposit back ?

They must be showing this at Geneva this year if it's late 2020.....

Don't think its showing at Geneva this year. I'm there next Thursday so will be interested to see what they DO have on stand.

It would be odd for it to be out late 2020 and not be at the show. That's a year away. Also if it's a hybrid which ls very new to Maserati they must be sharing technology surely from someone else. Would have though we would have seen done mule pictures in the press. Something doesn't stack up for me with it being 18 months away.

Agreed Andy but with Maserati it's all a bit chaotic in terms of what's coming and when.

Could be they show something or potentially have something in the Autumn at Frankfurt.

I would not second guess Maserati on timing, even a ‘provisional sum’ would not be enough or ‘optimism bias’ as they call it in the public sector - whenever you think it is coming then think again.

Anyway you would not expect them to undershoot on price would you? When the GranTurismo came out at c£80k basic, the DB9 was about £100k. The DB11 starts at about £150k so similar logic would put the Maserati Unicorn starting at about £120k so about £30k above where the GranTurismo is now. The thing is Maserati have been kind to use with the GranTurismo and not increased prices as much as the competition as they realise they are selling a previous generation car.

I’m looking forward to seeing the new car but by then I won’t need that much seating space so I would prefer a two year old DB11 for £100k. Maserati have sold me three cars whilst the kids were still, well, kids. Could have sold me five cars if they got their act together. I’m sure there are many others in Europe and North America in the same position.

Looks like FCA latched on to the huge wheels favoured by AM, and imho they don't do the Alfieri any favours when compared with the 2014 launch car:

I wonder if the new rendition is what customers want or whether it's what the stylists say they should have. Either way there's not much finesse in the execution.

100% the top one with wheels that size will never get near production.

Looks great in a picture though

Nice. My GranTurismo will be on a Zimmer frame by the 2023 UK launch. Might need an interim car - been putting that off too long. Perhaps a 4WD F Type?

That Autocar rendition looks daft; not just the wheels but the skinny remains of the top of the front wings amd the rear would result in no rear space and a boot full of wheel arch.

2021/22 launch as well... is that another shift to the right?

Tell us when they last made a shift to the left? ;)
