I would have the manual rather than the sportshift even though change is slower. 4.3 feels slower than my old 4200 but reality is you need to use the revs as torque is not as obvious. 4.7 addressed that to an extent. Pedals feel heavy and a heavy change from the box but I guess it is kind of old school sportscar feel and it does feel as if the whole car is made from granite.
Sitting in it I felt the car wrapped around you. Odd at the start but got used to it. You feel part of the car. Black exterior and interior wouldn't help the claustrophobic feel but it is a common combo on them.
The silver V8 graphic isn't my taste but apparently is considered desirable by some buyers. Newcastle had a very similar car in nearly 2 years ago but was from memory an 05 with over 80k on the clock. They sold it in one week.
Sorry for mild threat drift Robert.

I've not seen the silver graphic on a Vantage before apart from in the USA/Canada as the 2014 N430 was called the GT over there and had the silver strip with GT instead on V8 on it.

Perhaps this car was for sale at another dealer last year as I remember it for the blue leather and low miles.

Interesting thread.
I never really managed to get my head around leasing. And like rockits was always schooled by my parents to only spend what you have.
So what that meant was I bought a GTS and then lost £20k in depreciation over 4 years.
Never really occurred to me. It was only my second ever car and actually my first car I had ever sold on.
So would it have worked out better for me to lease it? Or at that price range actually to lease something more expensive and to have lost the same amount over the same period? Like an FF?

Yes it has been quite interesting reading peoples different takes on this. From what I've read, basically you need to figure out how much depreciation you're happy to swallow over what period and then look at the all in cost of the leasing deals. It's then down to your man maths algorithm to find the intersection of car model/depreciation/period that you can justify! This takes the initial capital cost out of the equation and potentially lets you put a more expensive car on your drive over that period. Very cunning!

Back to Hoyin's experience, only he can say whether "paying" £20K over 4 years for the privilege of having a GTS was worth it, or in retrospect, if he'd looked at leasing at the time, could he have got something else (or "better") for the same 4 years / £20K ? Leasing with a GSV allows you to make these decisions up front.

Contrasting my own experience, I have owned my QP now for over 5 years, having paid £22K outright when it was 7 years old and done 40K. I'm now up to 64K and probably now lost around £12-15K, but I still have the car, still loving the experiences and opportunities it brings me, and crucially never had a hankering to change! (But now I have had some education in the dark arts of man maths, I may start playing fantasy garage with these lease prices now!)

100% agree.....The old Vantage and DBS/DB9 interiors look so much more classy than the one in the latest Vantage...Its too fussy......Love the look of the cars but interiors not quiet as special.........

It’s all personal opinion of course- and I loved the old glass key and ‘solid’ feel of the old vantage/ DB9- but the ‘new’ interior and the technological link with MB was the deciding factor for me. The sat nav, 360 degree camera , audio etc is just fantastic. And IMO the new interior just works so well. Best balance of incredible leather/ carbon/ stitching whilst encorporating new tech. I think it’s very generational. I love the new vantage and love the ‘fighter pilot’ interior- but with 2 seats and that price it was never going to happen - would much prefer a 458 at that money. I respect the old aston interiors- I remember getting into the first vanquish and was amazed at the build quality and amount of leather.

I am blown away by the DB11 at the moment , especially with the aggressive styling tweaks- and I still can’t believe the pops and crackles in sports + mode- I am sure they are as noticeable as they were in my GTS- much much louder than the Ferraris.

It’s so valuable to hear about other people’s thoughts and experiences on here - a great range of cars for all tastes.

The only difference in the cost of buying a car on finance compared to with cash is the cost of money. Depreciation is completely unchanged. You need to decide if you are happy with the cost of the interest over the term. Now, if you have a stack of cash and could actually buy the car outright, you might still decide to finance the car because you can make that money deliver a financial return greater than the cost of interest you'd be paying on the car over the same period. Many people do that.

You also need to decide if you're happy with potentially handing the car back at the end of the term because you don't want to pay the final payment. As most of us switch cars every 2- 5 years anyway it's kind of a moot point.

I've just had a good look through the current and recent Aston range and have concluded that Robert has made the right choice. The updated DB9 from 2013 to my eyes has the best exterior shape (svelte and stylish without being too aggressive) and the nicest interior. All that for circa £65k, with palatable depreciation. A job well done, I'd say.

This could well be an option for me if/when I sell the CG-MC.

But before that, in mid Jan, I take delivery of my latest purchase, a Porsche 944S2, in the compulsory colourway of Guards Red with cream interior. I've decided to re-live the 80's yuppie dream.

There's a rather lovely nearly-new manual Vantage V12S in light metallic blue on the usual suspects sites. Well, lovely until you see the cabin.

Same place has a Vanquish Zagato in a similar hue. Up close these are amazing bits of kit, but £800k bits of kit? Hmm...

You will enjoy the 944 for the handling balance Ewan. Only thing my 968 CS fell short on was cylinders and thus engine note, but doubling my money in 18mths ownership was ample compensation.
How do you find the Grandcab compared to coupe with MC Shift?

The only colour to have a 944 or any other Porsche IMO

928 GTS manual in dark metallic blue?
Despite the stress of the photoshoot (note to all: never try doing it in Liverpool city centre), it was utterly fabulous.

I used to have a 944 in Guards and cream with Porsche cloth interior.

I used to be PCGB 944 Register Secretary.

Despite reading this thread I still don’t get Astons, and I’m not sure I ever will.

I agree the DB11 interior I like...It's the Vantage that is just too much for me. It has a more Germanic look to it than Aston but then that's the Merc/AMG influence It's a very lovely place to be I'm sure but far too fussy. The old was classy which I prefer. I think that's why I have always like the McLaren 12C interior ... Minimalistic.

Luckily I have plenty of other cylinders and noise in my garage, so a quiet 4 cylinder makes a nice change! I did think about a 968, but the 944 is the more iconic 80’s shape.

As for the CG-MC, it’s quite a bit more noisy (in sport mode) than the GT-MCS. And is far more exclusive and imposing. The sport-Shift gearbox (if that’s the right term) is good as well - genuinely quick changing by the paddles, but also smooth as an auto. So it is quite a bit better. But so it should be, as it cost me twice as much!

I had a 928GTS that was the Porsche UK press car. Loved it. The guy I sold to still has it, I understand it's sitting in his garage a little unloved. I keep thinking of calling him and then change my mind. Been there, done that. So the GTS will remain a good memory.

Manual or auto? - the manual really changes the car’s character in a way that I didn’t expert. Feels more like a supercar than a GT (with the GTS suspension tweaks; I imagine the GT is similar).

Auto. I had a 928s4 before and bought it on a whim whilst also owning a 993 turbo (best car ever). The manual is rare as hens teeth, as you know! I remember a GTS winning the first or second gumball and thinking that I needed to get one!
