Another would you rather: GranSport or tastefully modified manual 4200?

I'd go for the GS... if you were to take all those silly Richard Grant style plastic bits off it!

Actually, one car I have seen lately that I really like is MaserTel’s Spyder. He has GS steering wheel, bumpers and surfboards, FD big brakes and wheels. It looks the shizzle. And it is manual.

I like the surfboards but indifferent to the facelift bumpers so I want to keep mine as a classic look...

What I do like out of the GS is those seats! Really would like a pair of those in my 4200. The GS wheel is really nice too prefer it over the 4200 carbon pack wheel

There you go. That’s the next £3k you are spending on your car sorted!

I have seen the GS wheel for sale at 1500 but not seen the seats and affraid to ask how much. If the are 750 each then that's not bad

The ultimate would be the classic 3200 looks (low bonnet line) and interior, with GS engine and running gear but with a modern manual 6 speeder up front ,and not to look too silly,on 18 inch rims!

I had GS seats in my 4200, luckily someone spec’d them on purchase..
Very nice, think GT seats would overwhelme the cabin.

I wouldnt say manual is an obsession. Its just the thread premis is that the GS was unavailable in manual. Its so "not" an obsession that they didnt make as many manual cars. No wonder they decided ( along with all the other premium manufacturers) to plump for flappy paddle bo770x.. We are all punters....
I see it the same way,Shoghi. Mines much the same-ripe for hot rodding !

I just love that engine. It's character surely lies as much in a willingness to play in octaves above as ever it does punching out in whatever gear it finds itself in. For me, the "GT" dimension comes into its own when you think, they really are made to cruise at speeds of 120mph all day !

They look great. Better than any dogs **** Giuguaro mash up with steroid gills and bottom feeding intent. No offence to you modern folks but class never goes out of style ! I regret the boomerang lights but not the bonnet.
I could do without Skyhook though. The anatomy for a half decent set up is there. Switch off the ECUs and put coil overs. The electrics scare the living **** out of me -
Not sure about the brakes either.. Suspect they arent really great tbh but baby & bath water springs to mind for now.... I am a newbie after all....!

... Or buy the 4200 and a Lotus Elise with the £15k.

Sounds like the perfect combination to me! ;)

The gear shift in the manual 4200 isn't great, but I think I'd hate a CC judging by my recent 3 weeks with a new Mini 7 speed dual clutch paddle box, which I hated, and I would imagine is considerably better than the Maserati CC box from 15 years ago (happy to be proven wrong..)

. The gear change is a little clunky. The manual is definitely more of a "Grand Tourer"... You pick your gear sit back and hear it roar...

The joy of a manual box is the satisfaction of changing gear. And the problem with the 4200 manual is that this simply isn’t the case. As pointed out above by an owner.

If you just pick a gear and sit back, you may as well drive an auto.

The joy of the CC box in the GS is you can wack up and down the gears to your hearts content, quickly and easily. So for me, it would have to be a GS.

Exactly ...! It takes work and familiarity..but nothing that comes easy is as satisfying...
Ive never owned an auto anything...After my experiences with Porsche 997, on track, I was not about to start with SMG or paddle anything....It was an absolute stand out disappointment. If the technology had worked, I could live with the sense half my body was redundant...but you could pop out for a kabab and it would still be in the same gear when you got back. Pi55 poor ! I couldnt imagine who'd spend their money on half baked shite like that !!

I don’t get what the obsession is with manual cars - I don’t think manual suits the Maserati - so for me I would say Gransport without hesitation.
I'd agree with that in a 4200 for sure. The CC box suits the car spot on. I've driven two manual 4200's and the were both poor IMHO.

I also agree that a nice manual gives a great & rewarding driving experience. Just than the manual in the 4200 IMHO is not nice.

I have a manual 4200 GT Spyder , must admit , when cold the change , especially from 1st to 2nd , is a bit on the notchy side but when warm it’s pretty good , still takes a bit of a shove to select the next ratio but I like it that way , it feels like you are driving it and not being driven .
Few cars back I had a Mercedes SLK 350 , great car on the motorway but the auto box wasn’t my idea of fun especially when blasting down country lanes , trying to play tunes on the engine .

You totally missed my point

With a manual box one tends to leave it in gear and rev out the engine more so than a slushtronic box which shifts up automatically or flappy paddles which is the tap of a paddle and a lengthy wait

This question has been thrashed about so many times on here with no conclusion because there isn't one! At the end of the day some of us prefer the manual and some prefer the CC, we are never going to change each others minds. We are all different which is nice and not boring!...........One thing we all share is our love for the brand

You must have been driving a very badly set up 4200/GS. Every GS with a CC box I’ve owned has been significantly faster to change gear than any manual, and once you learn how to manage the gear change, there is no “clunkiness” either......
