Are we really that desperate for a drink?

My uncle's best friend's sister's hairdresser took this photo of a huge convoy of army vehicles on the M4 just two minutes ago. Apparently they are going to the Red Lion in Hackney to quell all the rioting there.

Fake news again! Anyone can see that's a north sky so the convoy is clearly westbound.

Some of the videos I have seen of central London this afternoon and evening are shocking in terms of the crowds, and the obvious disregard for social distancing.
If this is being repeated across the country, then a second wave and further unnecessary deaths is a sure bet.

As expected most went well in pubs out of the major cities.... but central London was never going to be easy to keep drunk people apart.

Probably as well as expected but even on nthe news channels of pictures of people enjoying a quiet drink under new rules they are showing large groups 6/8 of young people and I doubte they are from the same household and closer than 1mtr, on news reel they did a walkthrough of a pub explaining new rules and showed the signing in book with a shared pen and no means of washing hands before or after use, guidelines for offices state no share pens etc...... it’a a mess ...... and it’s going to get messy .....

From what I have seen this morning London and Bristol looked like Carnage and I'm sure many other places too.
Looks like Boris has his Herd Immunity plan back in action.

The benches outside our local were empty...I suspect the beer garden may have had some patrons. I drove thru town and there wasn’t people milling outside the pubs...
Joys of a Yorkshire village I guess.

Second the Joys of living in a village especially a French one.
I did enjoy the few weeks I spent living in a Yorkshire village pub last year especially the banter with the locals and my French registered Jaguar outside.
Strangely they all new I was there repairing a Maserati :)

A couple of ones I drove past in Bristol were rammed, although they weren't in the most desirable areas. Really pisses me off how some people can be so disrespectful, with no forethought. Great British common sense my ********.

You're on the front line, but by my reckoning there are still more than enough people on a midweek to overfill the reduced capacity. Good luck tonight (although I'm sure you won't need it!) Can we get a report on how it was?

C

Front line report:

The weather didnt help yesterday. Rained most of the day. Outside seating areas mostly unused except for smokers.

Steps i took. Risk assessment, staff training, enhanced cleaning routines. Altered drinks dispence procedure to reduce the person to glass to person contact. Welcome letter on every table which details what and why for everything and the rules that apply.

Quiet start to the day but increased steadily to maximum capacity. The vast majority of customers there was either no push back from or very very positive and compliant. One chap simply said "whatever you need me to do just say what the rules are and i will do it. Im just glad to be here."

Overall the attitude and compliance with the new rules and regulations and procedures was very good.

There was some push back. Oddly that came from a very small number of people in the 55 years and above age group. We had the odd rolling of eyes or ffs statement which were dealt with politely.

We had one that was far more vocal with " this is f'ing boll*cks". Politely explained this is what we have to do to be open. If you cant do as requested then you will not be getting served cured that one.

There were three occasions we had to either stop people trying to move tables or chairs and explain again the social distancing rules or just ask them to create a further gap between people that were too close together.

We did have more people either from other areas or people that would not usually class this as their local.

The only other thing of any note was one known local person who is barred that decided to pop their head through the doorway and in their drunken tiny little mind thought it would be ok to scream abuse at somebody else in the pub. Dealt with quickly and they never made it through the doorway.

Minor problems aside and they were minor it was a good day and everybody that visited said they had enjoyed it and understood why we have to do what we are doing to keep people safe.
