OMG! One old man didn't wear his mask for a minute! That's it! The whole pandemic strategy is a farce! We might as well just give up! Those politicians (well, their dads) are just so hypocritical! It's one rule for us poor voters and another for anyone called Johnson! Frick this, I'm going to flounce off in a huff! I'm so oppressed by any hint of inconsistency or complexity! Why can't the government make my whole life totally simple and clear and also make sure everybody else has and lives by exactly the same rules! Oh! Oh! Oh!

Students!
Want clarity! (these are tomorrows decision makers) seems clear enough to an old fogey like me
Want the student life experience! (pished up, partying, no responsibility for themselves)
Will be devastated (I look at the lives my parents had when they were young, Bomber and fighter pilots, the depression, the general strike, the hungry 1930's)
Isolated in their own rooms in halls (erm no, there is a communal kitchen on each floor and every student interview I have seen there are many present, hardly isolation)

I was thinking, actually, that by the time Christmas comes, most of the students will have been exposed already. Now this brings a different question: Do those that have tested positive and self isolated / recovered have to isolate again if they are notified by track and trace etc?
More importantly, I reckon a Christmas Halls student party would be ******* epic.

I cannot believe the BS heaped on about students. Not going to do the 'in my day' thing but the pampering my niece and nephews got, and which I was invited to support really was barking. And these aren't even snowflakes

Possibly...I was working in the AIR joint venture company which lasted just 2 years. I was the UK procurement lead for the new AIR Jet development. Great times while it lasted.

It’s not just one old man though is it.
It’s the continual symbolic sham that the Powers that be tell you one thing and do another themselves.
Cummings, Corbyn, the stupid SNP woman......then to add insult Johnson’s dad.
Johnson couldn’t explain his own rules FFS.
Hardly surprising as they change with the direction of the wind.

You combine that clueless guidance with the utter shambles Brexit has become and the economic mess that govt policy is now reeking on a desperate population and it’s hardly surprising people are disillusioned and upset.75764

Surely the point is it's self evident that the masks made no sense for a woodwind player, and hence the ridicule? I'd certainly not go down the coercion line but I would look very askance at anyone that actually suggested that this might be a sensible thing, and then, beyond that, attempted to test it. There appears to have been no logical examination of any theoretical benefits before jumping into to a practical test.

Having said that, you're normally a reasonable chap, so interested to hear your take.

When I read yours it sounded like you were excusing govt etc for the chaos.....
