Autoepoca experiences?

Hi,

Since we have here the scary KJB Parts thread, I thought it would be prudent to ask your experiences with Autoricambi d'Epoca SrL.

I've just ordered a bunch of gaskets, and I became very intrigued that they could supply an electric steering kit for me, for actually quite reasonable price.

What are your experiences with this one? Please post both good and bad!

The electric conversion kits are produced by a company in Holland something like EZsteer from memory. They do one for my Opel GT but the motor is above your feet in the footwell and it sort of touches your foot. All a bit tight.

I found the Dutch company at http://www.ezpowersteering.nl/, there is really little information about it. Were you otherwise happy with it?

I never fitted it. The reports from others about the motor being above your feet put me off.

I think the position of the motor is different in each application. Best to see their website.

Bit of a mess if you ask me. If the motor goes in the engine bay then yes, I would have gone for it and it does just not in the Opel GT application as there is no room:

I did an EZ electric power steering install a few year ago on a old Alfa, as I supplied the drawings myself the motor never interfered
They use either Vauxhall/Opal or Fiat arrangements and very good they are too working off an ECU useing GPS

Ah ok, that picture tells a lot. The motor and gearbox are quite bulky indeed! If you swung that 180dgr, maybe it would be ok (I assume you cannot do that in Opel GT)
In a biturbo, cannot really tell yet, I haven't taken the console out yet.

If you give then a drawing they'll make it too suite, the fiat 500 motor assembly is fairly compact

Hey if you guys have done this, what controller box is there? Is it documented?
I'm building my own new embedded car computer for this project, that will talk with everything, including Megasquirt. It will do electric throttle etc, and it would be bit plus if I can integrate this steering if it fits ok. I'd prefer to get rid of hydraulic systems mostly, leaving just clutch & brakes.
So far I've been playing in idea that I'll have electric steering pump, but all-electric would be better.

I used the Fiat 500 motor assembly on a 1968 Alfa 1750GTV it was first class!
They cut the steering column were you tell them, weld on flanges etc and fit the motor assembly
All the software and wiring loom is included in the price

OK that sounds good! I'll ask Sergio bit more, as he let me understand he has a ready kit for Biturbo.

But for the original topic, everyone happy with Autoepoca?

The Rally Boys been doing it for years with no issues at all and when you appreciate the stress and strains a car takes on either a Forest event or a fast sealed surface one it works well.

surely one of the joys of an older car is the unassisted steering ? Working like a dog to park the thing !

Again on this Autoepoca, I do recommend. They can find you anything it seems!

They found for me new rubber seals for all doors and boot, with resonable price. All rubber is new, not new old stock!

Steering is still ongoing. lets see.
