Automatic boot release and closing problem

Has anybody else had a problem with the automatic operation (soft close and shut) of the boot. I have established that the mechanism works if power is applied to the terminals of the motor, but I cant seem to get it to work normally. I thought it was a bad connection in the connector block and then a damaged wire - but can't fathom were the problem actually lies.
All help gratefully received.

I had the same problem, the solve it, I closed the latch manually, ie, with a screwdriver, then opened the latch using the boot handle. This can also happen when the battery is disconnected.

Or is this a simple problem with the plunger spring being worn out and the boot just closes right away when you try to open it?

Can you give a better description of the problem please, before you start pulling things apart.
