Best 12V feed under dashboard?

About 2 months and 1000 miles in and I'm loving my 4200 Spyder as you all said I would. I'm not loving plugging an adaptor into the 'cigar' lighter for my iPhone etc. though, so I bought one of these to fit under the dash to provide a more discrete and permanent 5V USB supply:

Before I start poking around any suggestions as to a safe and fairly easy-to-access 12V supply would be? I'd prefer the driver's side as that's where I'll mount the iPhone dock and phone kit. Preferably controlled by the ignition. I'm not an auto electrician but have done similar things before on other cars. Thanks for any help.

I'd take a feed off the cigar lighter. You can probably do it with minimal dissembly.

Thanks, hadn't thought of that. I'll take a look.

You could also fit it in with the NIT, and take a feed off the switched live for the NIT itself. Depends on where you want the phone, really. Check out the Parrot How To for more details.

Waits for "I've connected a wire and now nothing works" thread

:) That has crossed my mind, one reason I'm avoiding the NIT for now. I've read the various threads on this forum and others about Parrot kits, Loudlink, speaker upgrades etc. and one day I will go for it but I'm in no hurry for now. I'll be happy if I can charge my phone somewhere easily visible and plug in my £20 bluetooth/FM/mic connector that seems to work OK. That gives me phone, Spotify, internet radio and satnav without having to touch the NIT while I enjoy my car and get used to it.
