Bike Rack/Towbar

Hi chaps,
I know some may cry - but has anyone ever fitted a bike rack to a Granturismo? I know a tow-bar has been fitted as there is that video of one towing a caravan when I was looking to buy! I have heard of some blow-up type bike racks that go on the roof. I don't want to do any damage, but I also would like to be able to take bikes when I go away for the weekend, and they most definitely will not fit in the boot...
Thanks in advance,
Laurence

Don't stop at the bike tow bar.

Throw some hay and goats in the back seat for good measure.

Bit harsh! Why shouldn't he take a bike with him?

I've never seen one, but since since Maserati have just started sponsoring cycling events, how about giving the dealers a call to ask them how to fit a bike carrier to a GT?

Failing that, I've got a couple of folders you could borrow ;)

Don't need hay, have no goats, just want to enjoy a sport as well as the drive to said sporting location :)
Might try Maserati themselves Drewf thanks!

Well that's weird. I was just thinking the same today. Not sure whether I could / would want to fit one to my Cabrio (over the boot of course - not on the roof!). Not sure I've got the balls to try it frankly...

Also considered the same for a QP. On the US forums they've added towbars and just used a cycle rack... not sure I want to try it though, don't see why it wouldn't work (on a QP). What we really want is a car that can transport you in style and magically get all your clobber to where you need to get to as well...

Yeah BigR I've seen some designs which seem to rely on there being a big gap between the boot lid and the rest of the car - since we all know that Mass's are known for their high build quality I'm not sure it would be possible?! Wouldn't want to stress anything unnecessarily...
Ebenezer - yes I am sure it must be possible to put a tow-bar on, would just prefer something a little less permanent, that doesn't scream 'I've towed a 2 tonne boat' when time comes to sell...!

I have a 2 bike carrier which sits on a normal tow bar ball and has a board for number plate and electrics etc (indicators, brake lights etc)

I can easily load 2 bikes on and nowhere near car - I don't have a Maserati though so in essence all you need is a tow bar really.

Every bike carrier I have ever used on any car has managed to find a way to leave some sort of damage. They're a menace.

Tow-bar with a separate carrier trolley would be the safest way to go. Not cheap, but probably cheaper than a trip to the body shop!

Wheels off, in a bike bag on the rear seats? I've done that in the QP. Usually get carried in the Beemer or 4x4 though - horses for courses, as it were.

Personally, I'd just take my Brompton folder - a surprisingly good bike that I've done 80 miles in a day on in mountains. Failing that, if you take the wheels off and use lots of dust sheets would one fit in the back seats?

Thanks guys,
I don't really want to buy another bike (foldup) but not a stupid idea! I do like those suction pad roof ones - will investigate more - they do say they don't mark the metal, but part of me thinks they can't be exactly good for it? Though the picture of the Nascar with a bike on it's roof makes me think they could cope with as fast as I can (~180mph??)

I am sure there is a solution but why not a cheap pick up for bike duties?

FWIW I can get two bikes stood up in the back of a Discovery without taking wheels off etc.

Hi Bigbog - that I am sure would be a sensible option - and having come from a 330d touring there are more practical cars out there - but that is not the point! I want to be able to use the Mas for everything as I love it, and the times I drive it away for a weekend (friends/family mini breaks etc) I want to be able to take the GT. My wife's car is a TT (surprisingly spacious with rear seats folded but not really big enough for a bike). I basically don't want to buy another car as I always spend so long researching, that budget creep will change a £2k run-about and dump trip car into £20k by the time I've finished writing this!

I've had two Bromptons in my QP's boot but even with the Brompton being one of the best folders out there it is surprising how full the QP's boot was with two in there. You wouldn't be packing for your hols as well.
