That version would be known as a Series 1a, whilst it may have been registered in 1994 it’s certainly not a MY94. In fact, for the UK market, the MY94 was unofficially known as the MY95 because they weren’t sold in the UK until 1995.
The main differences between a Series 1a and a MY94 are:

ABS - Series 1a does not have ABS, MY94 does have ABS

Wheels - Series 1a has the Shamal style wheels by OZ, MY94 has 16” Merak style wheels by Mille Miglia. The pcd is different between a Series 1a and a MY94

Headlights - a Series 1a has silver backed headlights, a MY94 has black backed headlights

Bumpers - the Series 1a has a more distinctive band around the top section

Trident badge on bootlid - Series 1a has a plain Trident, MY94 Trident has an oval surround

Fuel fillers - Series 1a usually has a Trident badge on each side (one on the fuel filler and one on the dummy on the left side of the car), the MY94 does not have these

Steering wheel badge - Series 1a has a rectangular badge, MY94 has an oval badge

Carpets - Series 1a has herringbone carpets, MY94 has more conventional turfted type carpet

Dashboard inlay on passenger side - Series 1a has “Maserati” inlay, MY94 has “Ghibli”,
This particular car was driven back from the factory; there's a picture of said trip with the car. He did the same with his Cup IIRC.
I dream it, he lived it.

425 / 430 parts / donor on ebay which could yield a surprising number of hard to find stuff....

Out of curiosity Dicky - is the pcd on those MY94 Mille Miglias the same as on a '92 Biturbo 430? I have a photo of a 430 on MMs and would love to put a set on mine, but am not sure whether they'll fit or not.

Not directly, late Biturbos have a pcd of 5x106, the MY94 Ghibli onwards has a pcd of 5x108. The Series 1a wheels will fit your 430 no problem but to fit the Merak Style Mille Miglia wheels you’ll need some pcd adaptors.

Intersting description on the eBay advert. I doubt very much that Maserati would have made prototypes in RHD as the U.K. usually didn’t get new models until a year or more after they were released in Europe. The Ghibli MY94 being a prime example which didn’t come to the UK until 95.

Whilst a 425i isn’t exactly common in the UK, it’s not that rare as Biturbos go, one starred in the James Bond film Licence to Kill. 1989 would have been the crossover between the end of U.K. 425 supply and the introduction of the 430; the 430 went on sale in Europe in 1987 however. I suspect that car is either mistakenly registered or it’s had an engine swap, you’d need to see the data plate to confirm. Either way that’s one rusty car that won’t be seeing the road again ☹️

@dickyb is there any chance you could get a USB port fitted to the back of your head? Or simply AirDrop all Maserati Biturbo related knowledge to the Cloud as a massive file to archive? Your knowledge on these cars really is extraordinary!

The knowledge on here is incredible, one of the reasons I love this forum! It won't see the road again but if the engine is a runner as the ad says it could be worth a look. The interior, wheels, lights etc and some of the trim would also be worth saving.

Re your other reply - the OZ / Shamal wheels are my other choice but I'm still wondering how this 430 managed to get MMs fitted, perhaps the hubs have been changed to a set with the correct pcd....?

They will have used pcd adapters, for wheels with vastly different pcds you buy what looks like a thick spacer, this has 2 bolt patterns, one for your existing car and one for the new wheels. The adapter bolts to your hubs with the standard bolt pattern, then you attach the wheels to the other bolt pattern on the adapter.
In your case, as the pcd is fairly close you could use wobble bolts.

I'm still waiting for the day these wheel centre caps (many conversations about this with dickyb) become available again. If only.

RHD 222 for sale on c&c, needs work but a rare old thing - the reg' number is two digits away from the original number allocated to my '92 430 'K24 NCR'....

The wheels along must be worth a third of the asking price for the whole car.

That is a thing of wonderment. I’ve asked the question of a specialist to see what the ballpark figure in getting it sorted might be…

Even my wife was game.

Could be a fascinating project to do, but one to do over time to help hide / forget about the cost to restore. Good luck if you go ahead though

I guess it depends on what standard you’re looking for. You’d probably need to spend at least the asking price again to get it running properly and do a very basic bodywork tidy up. If you wanted everything done properly it would probably run to £20k+. Probably worth it on a LHD car as they are sought after and appreciated in Europe and often go for €25k+. Despite their rarity in the UK, unfortunately they’re little known and not seen as sought after other than by anoraks such as us who appreciate them for what they are.

The killer for me (and the reason why I’m ducking out) is the Class C. While I wouldn’t be looking to sell it, if I had to in the event of a general life catastrophe, it would be hard to sell and certainly not at the top of the market. Hope someone saves it though.
The other thing is that I really want a Ghibli Cup and this would be a very expensive distraction.

Agree with your thought process there. A Ghibli Cup or similar is a nice distraction
