Like you do .............heard a topic on the radio this morning regarding a chap going into hospital overnight due to extemely high blood pressure , excess of 200 something plus over whatever , long story short they fixed him admirably and he had nothing but praise for the NHS , ive never suffered with it ( not sure i have any blood left in my system ) for those of you that do , and take pills or whatever , why cant you use leeches , or for a major spike cut an artery or something to relieve the pressue , presumeraly the system is like an innertube ;)

A fast drop is just as bad, if not worse.
Mine went high last year, no idea why, 200/120 ! I just felt a bit "not right". I just tried to excercise more, watch what I ate, and it is now 135/67. Didn't go to docs or take pills. I monitor it almost daily when home, juat as I can.

Leeches can send your blood pressure soaring Loz - ask anyone who's dealt with HMRC!

For those who do believe in the technology

The systolic 135 is in the pre hyper tension range, the dystolic, 67 is below 80 so normal. So your result would be described as High/ Normal.

I’m definitely not “normal” and neither is my blood pressure. Mind the amount of alcohol I’m getting through won’t be helping.

I had a health check 2 years ago in which after taking my blood pressure the doctor looked at the machine, said, ‘hmmmmm’ and turned it off an in again.. At that point I told him if the last reading was high this next one isn’t going to be any better... I was put on tablets, Ramipril, and had all sorts of side effects. I was getting 1 hours sleep, twitcy legs and a cough. Stuck it out for 6 months then bought my own monitor and started testing daily. I went back to the doctors with my results and the machine so she could bench mark it’s accuracy and Lo and behold it turns out I’m terrified of doctors.. blood pressure goes through the roof. White coat syndrome. What it do however was give me a prompt to get fitter.

I had a similar experience, think they call it
"white coat syndrome" when you get anxious having your blood pressure checked. Dont know about your experience but when I have the cuff thing wrapped around my arm, it gets so tight it's like having a bloody anaconda round your arm ..infact quite painful, so guess what, my blood pressure goes back up again. Anyway I am on 2.5mg of Lisinopril now and 20mg of Atorvastatin to keep my cholesterol down, even though my cholesterol is in the normal range! Think it was a belt and braces thing with the Docs because HBP runs in my family. Not good with this Covid -19 around though. :(

I think it also depends on the doctors attitude to it as well. I’ve seen 2 doctors at the same practice with 2 opinions as to whether I should be on medication. As it stands I’m high normal and getting fitter, so hopefully that will mitigate risk. You can’t avoid your genes though, and as my family history is the same as yours with history of HBP I suspect in later life some medication will be likely.

It is a slippery slope though; the doctors start treating one issue, the treatment causes side effects and they then have to start treating those causing in time additional side effects requiring yet more treatment. So many of us have experienced visiting ageing relatives that rattle like maracas! THe NHS are only too aware of this and in the last 20 years or so now have a process of taking people in for a stay; stopping all medications, letting people stabilise and then treating the residual issues, being in hospital they can deal with any major issues immediately. Jeanette's grandfather went from over 40 pills a day to just 2! I have known several others to have similar results.

I amazingly don't take anything yet despite my gross mass! I just remain very active and am a workaholic!

Yeah ive seen those people with their meds trays , haha reminds me of a chippies scewfix screw tin , i'd rather carry a couple of leeches and a BP tester around in my pocket , if its a bit low i'll run up and down the stairs a few times lol , im just really conscious as i get older how exploited and entrapped we have become by the corporate pharmaceuticals ,

Just before the Corona Virus lockdown kicked off I was supposed to have various checks due to high systolic blood pressure.

My systolic was 118, my systolic was 98.

Obviously this has all gone by the wayside for now.

When I had my arrhythmia attack, my ticker was banging 240 bpm, BP sky high, had to have an ICD fitted, plus tabs all normal now, but I get anxious about sometimes and BP goes up.

Got a Withins BP cuff now, use that when I feel it, it's a mental thing for me, I can have a few goes and relax myself and BP drops like a stone

Got a nice piece of platinum and gold given to me by 'Johnson and Mathey', from the Rustenberg platinum mines ( Merensky Reef) in SA. Now that did get the blood pressure heading in the wrong direction!.

That's a sub-therapeutic dose of lisinopril. The usual maintenance dose is 10-20mg once daily. If you are on Atorva 20mg though your GP does not consider you high cholesterol, I can I'd guess you might be a Type 2 diabetic or on the way there. NICE guidelines stipulate all diabetics should be offered a statin (if they can tolerate it). The concept of normal cholesterol range is now out the window because of reduction in cholesterol and reduction in cardiovascular events, so the maxim for cholesterol is "lower is better" The dose of lisinopril is very low, but if you are meeting target BP,stick with it

If you are on Atorva 20mg though your GP does not consider you high cholesterol, I cna only guess that you are type 2 diabetic or on the way there - every diabetic should be on a statin according to NICe (and if they can tolerate it). The old concept of "normal" range cholesterol is out the window now. There is such a positive correlation between reduction in cholesterol and reduction in cardiovascular events, that then maxim for cholesterol is "lower is better"
Wow...so you were the main man on this stuff, excellent. I'm not diabetic but because blood pressure and heart issues run in my family the Doc decided to put me on Cholesterol lowering medication anyway to reduce my risk. I was hovering between 4.7 and 5.0 before medication.

Mine was 6.3 a fair while back but I did eat a lot unhealthy food. Now it's 3.9 I think....
