I've ordered some parts for the 3200 from Europe, they didn't charge me vat as they said that will be paid at UK customs, along with other charges no doubt, I'll pass these on as and when I get them. :D
At what point is VAT/duty paid? Parts arrived yesterday lol

I'll climb down and apologise, I was wrong. Tried it and what has been said is true, however it's out of stock now anyway!

I think what has confused me is I was VAT registered and previously I've entered my GB VAT number when it asked and got VAT-free. Well, VAT accountable in my Ltd's VAT return. Small amounts so I think I got away with it.
Ah, now, you got it ”VAT free” in the sense that the overseas supplier did not charge you VAT because you declared yourself a VAT registered business in the UK. However, what you should have then done is charged yourself the UK VAT due on your EU intra-community purchase and then recovered the same VAT if you used the goods/services purchased in the course of making your VATable supplies. You may say, well what’s the point of that? It’s a mechanism to ensure VAT is paid on goods or services in the country of consumption (not supply where this is a different country) and ensures a level playing field for VAT purposes for similar goods or services you could have purchased in the UK.

I would have thought before delivered to you if you purchased as a private customer, but VAT is due under the same mechanism as above if purchased by a business.

Either at point of sale or the shipping company should have charged you on import. As they haven’t I’m sure you’ll be able to declare it and pay HMRC directly ;)
