What he said. Even the likes of Prada and Dior make clothes in Bangladesh, India, China etc. They get round being able to put a made in Italy label on it by finishing them there. All the high street stuff like Zara is near/Far East and if her coat was £200 it wasn’t Chanel
Correct....to a point. Many Italian clothes are made in Italy by imported Chinese workers. At the start of the pandemic in Northern Italy there were c 20k Chinese workers living in and around Turin, the majority working in the clothing industry.

I was watching something like Panorama a couple of years ago and it’s not wholly cost. Because of cheap labour in the 70s and 80s skilled textile workers such as the lace industry in UK and France have almost gone. So if you want to get high quality handmade lace for example I think you have to go to Malaysia (might be another country)

EFTA would have been perfect for UK both Brexiters and remainers, especially the Swiss variant with lots of tweaks like the Swiss have done. But all EFTA variants meant accepting FoM which was, let's face it was what Brexit was all about.

Yep I think I came across something like this. I think Jaeger ( now owned by M&S) get all their gear made in Portugal. Portugal and Italy were the best places to get suits made back in the 80's.

Not a very accurate cartoon, the EU boat should have a hole in the hull and be sinking!

And the Chinese and US boats would be facing off against one another, both deeply concerned about the other's trade, political and military ambitions, knowing full well that each wishes to rule the world for the next thousand years..

Seems like a sensible thing to seek, and if it involves a change of position that results in a benefit for the island of Ireland, surely better that than stick dogmatically with an earlier decision.

No! U-turns are bad! You should carry on doing something you know is dumb!

(of course the argument should be phrased as 'This was a stupid original decision' and will be followed by 'Told you so')

Errrr didn't the MP's of all parties vote to say that there would be not extensions of any kind after the 31st December 2020???
But I guess they did not realise there are a number of organisations who's goods previously sailed through unchecked. Now the people put in position to check goods are being threatened by said organisations. i.e. if you stop our goods, you will be kneecapped, etc.

They don't seem to worry about the fishing industry however.

As in "stop our goods we all go out of business"

For the british frozen prawns, yes we understand, but let suppose I import to Belfast 2lbs of frozen prawns from Vietnam, what duties should I pay?
